Not entirely sure. I was just surfing through. I think it was the higher end of the band. Some guy was singing and not well. Seemed like his VOX was on and he didn't realize it. But other guys were on too so maybe it was a local net.

Oh shit you are right. That is some nasty stinky booty right there! Since it is a new product they said something about paying and being on a wait list but now I do not even see that as an option?

Call sign N4GDF, although I haven't used it in a very long time. My Dad was a fanatic, I grew up going to Hamfests on weekends and camping out every field day. Coolest memory was helping him install an antenna on the roof of the Pentagon.

I highly recommend the OpenGD77 firmware. It's the most simple DMR codeplug to program!

How cold does it get at your location? My friend had the Sti-co VHF antenna, and it gets a little "droopy" in the cold. The Sti-co is made from the same material. It's awesome I'm the summer!! But he swaps it out for a stainless 1/4 wave for the winter.

80m can be a challenge for a mobile antenna. However 80m is pretty reliable, in this part of the solar cycle. It's the only thing that works for NVIS right now. 40m has a skip zone. That should start changing soon though.

My dad was a CB freebander back in the day. He was telling me silly stories about radio terrorists in Phoenix over Thanksgiving. This was his base setup. Tube amp and a highly modified rig. 20201126_095745.jpg

I though about absconding with it and making it a true 10m radio. I have too many projects right now though.

Quiet week on this thread. I'm thinking about how to setup a permanent 80m wire for semi-local communications. I'd like to do an OCF antenna over the house and out to the tree. That would keep my feed point close to the house and I won't have excess coax run. Will running part of the antenna over my metal roof cause any issues? I imagine it will change my directional gain in funny/unpredictable ways. What say you?

Also, anyone play with a pixie transceiver? I built one but I don't think the potentiometer adjusts transmit frequency, only receive.

2m/70c was dead back and forth between Raleigh and Charlotte today. Guess I need to find more repeaters..

Here too, most all of the activity at these bands are on digital modes where I live. I use the analog simplex part of these bands when overlanding.

I had noticed this before but didn't think much of it. The repeaters with the same call sign (ex: K4ITL), are they linked? Can I talk to people on Raleigh 145.210- while I'm tuned to Level Cross 147.255+?

Well, I don't plan to DX on 80 so maybe that is a fine idea. I want to build a hex beam this winter to go with the 50' push up steel mast I found out my dad has. He used to install lots of them in Phoenix back in the days and still has a 50', 30', and 20' mast. Now they are mine.

In the process of studying for the test. I am wondering what goes into putting a radio in the truck. Is it difficult?
