*pretty* straight across as in seamless / easy. Obviously not price wise. Sorry, that was vague on my part.

thank you for your input. I love the versatility of the Tacoma, but find myself not using the bed as much as I thought I would.

Definitely thought about it. We have a 2014 Corolla S as our non-kid commuter.

We haven’t, but my wife is pretty set on the seat we have. She also wanted a 4Runner when we picked up the Tacoma.

Your wife wanted a 4Runner to begin with....if she’s like mine it sounds like you’re getting a 4 Runner!

Do people not plan ahead before buying vehicles? I’m always astonished at how some many people just eat the TTL fees (which are like $3k around here) like every year.

Maybe I’m just a cheap ass but I’m not getting rid of the truck I just bought because the wife “might” have to sit with her knees in her chest for the trip to grandma’s. But maybe that also makes me an a**hole.

BTW, I fit two rear facing car seats in my DCSB and my wife had plenty of room (she’s only 5’3” though). Is a Tacoma the best family of four hauler? In some respects, no. In others, it’s great being able to keep their filthy, stinky, poopy stuff in the bed.

    Funny thing, they started out small but just keep eating;

honestly if you want a 4Runner that’s great, I’m trying to replace my wife’s Forester with one too.

I just don’t buy the kids don’t fit in a double cab story.. We bought our 2005 when my son was born, had the chance to Tundra up three years ago and again the Tacoma ‘fit’ our family the best.

I daily the truck, we trip in it all the time, it carries all our gear and tows our rv. I’d be hard pressed to find a better rig for a 2+2 outdoor family.

I had two kids in an access cab till my sone was pushing 6ft at about 14, then we went to the double cab. I didn’t read the thread, but a 21 4Runner is not going to be an equal trade for a used 2020 taco, shit not even a brand new 21 taco would be an equal trade on a same trim 4Runner.

we bought, well more like stole, a used 2018 limited 4Runner, for just about what I paid for my 17 taco brand new. It was too good a deal to not buy the 4Runner. I like the 4Runner, we drove it from Maine to the west coast and back the beginning of this summer. Little off roading in Utah, over 10k miles in less than 3 weeks. However, I still prefer my manual taco.

To be fair, I had a 2012 4Runner (same truck as 2021 model) a 2017 Tacoma and now 2019 Tundra Limited.
They all have their strengths and all are first choices depending on needs.
    Here are the strengths:
Tacoma = offroad fun and hauling some
4Runner = no brainer for family needs and some offroad.
Tundra = heavy hauler and road king with some offroad.

Good luck and enjoy the 4Runner. Is a great family fun vehicle for the outdoors!

Tacomas and car seats don’t really go well together. You’re better off with a 4 runner if you need interior room

Lol one toddler requires enough crap to fill up the entire bed for a week at the beach! I know because I took my 18 month old granddaughter to the beach for a week. Damn! I had forgotten why we had a minivan when my kids were that age. You need a crib. You need toys. You need 9000 diapers. And a car seat. And and and. Sure you can make it work but why? 4runner is as or more capable offroad and they have a bigger back seat and they have a built in topper!

My son helped pick out our new 17 taco, I’m not sure he would have let me buy another kind of vehicle.

My son is over 6 feet and can fit in the back of our double cab. Is it tight, yep, especially when the 125 plus pound dog rides with the kids in the back. Life isn’t always easy, some times the road to get to the adventure is uncomfortable, too many people pamper the shit out of the kids.

the 4Runner is a great vehicle and would work well for a family, but the Subaru Outback was our choice as the family vehicle for the growing up family, decent gas mileage, plenty of room and similar price range as the taco.

now, if you have money to throw around, which going from a 2020 to a 2021 or dumping the new 2020 for the used pro, says you have money to waste, so don’t listen to anything I say, I’m just an underpaid public educator that needs to be wise with money.

I was in the same boat about 12 years ago. Had a 01 double cab My wife was pregnant with twins and we had a 3 year old. It was a pain in the ass getting 3 seats to fit then theres no room for anything. Ended up getting a mini van for 5 years then a durango now back to a tacoma. If you have more than 2 little ones get a SUV.

I'm 5'11 and my daughter's rear facing seat fits fine. I could scoot up some still if I wanted but I like to sit back when I drive.

I don't know if you've ever been in a 4runner but as far as car seat space is concerned it really isn't much better suit for car seats.

My aunt actually got rid of her 5th gen T4R because she had twins. The twins' car seats and get daughter's car seat literally do not all fit in the backseat.

You would have to go up a vehicle size if you are thinking 3 car seats is a possibility. A T4R isn't going to cut it.

Is this a primary vehicle or secondary? Tacoma doesn’t work as a primary with kids. Assuming you’ve had something with more space previously. I grew up with extended cab trucks, so when I traded an Outback for a 2nd gen Taco, I thought nothing of it.

Kids, who were 8 and 10 at the time, weren’t down with it. Not that they bitched, but even just taking them to school on a rainy day was a pain in the ass. Wifey wasn’t down with it, either. She’s 5’7”. Could you make it work if necessary? Sure. Unfortunately we were commuting 26mi one-way for school 5 days a week. So 52mi, 5 days a week, of annoying compromise. Wasn’t worth it. Too much of a compromise as a primary vehicle. I really didn’t think it’d be an issue. But it was. And it was immediately apparent.

So I traded it towards a 2015 4R Trail Premium (today’s TRD Premium). Holy shit it was badass. Everything about it was a step above the Tacoma. Wife loved it. Kids loved it. I loved it. Except for the shitty gas mileage.

Long story short - wifey now has a Chrysler Pacifica (kid hauler, mucho interior space, good gas mileage), and I just got another Tacoma.

Already have one kid and planning for a second. I’m 6’ and wife is 5’8 and it’s tight with one rear facing! Two will be rough but once they are out of the rear facing seats it will be better. Also that’s why the wife has the family vehicle

I think you missed the part where he said his wife initially wanted the 4Runner. There is no more argument, he's just trying to save face lol.

4Runners are nice. Some people say they're a little dated. But I would own one if I didn't need a truck sometimes.
