yeah i pointed out the overhang lookin thing biut had no idea about the gap until he told me about it. Pretty insane how they sent it off like that considering its not just a gap that can be covered with a rubber seal or something. It almost looks like it need to be moved both down and closer to the cab. Its both short and overhanging.

It’s unfortunate that you have that gap there. In a perfect world Spencer or his crew could have came to you and measured your truck, however they are relying on the customer to give them accurate information for the build. It’s obvious that there was a communication error somewhere. I do know that Spencer was very adamant about having a correct seal to keep dust and water out of the camper. They treated us with the utmost professionalism and I highly recommend them to anyone. I truly feel inside that they will work with you to remedy the situation.

Maybe you’ve just got a 3rd gen SB, so they can swap you out with a 2nd Gen in the future and just sell that one used to a 3rd gen owner. Still sucks that you’re driving around with it like that, total bummer

Did anyone notice that the recent X1 on the black DCLB from Super Pacific looked a few inches short? Maybe it was the angle but I’ve noticed that is seems like about 3” short.

I noticed that too. Seems like it'd almost miss the forward edge of the tailgate.

That's my long bed. I can confirm it's not short and the seal over the tailgate is perfect.

do you mind taking a closer photo ? Also does the upper platform allow for it to be recessed over the cab similar to vagabond drifter? In other words, get full access of the bed while standing .

By the way, just got back from spending my first couple nights in the X1. I can tell you it's AWESOME. The exped is comfy as hell. Opening up/closing down is simple. Latches and doors are great. Closing them feels like closing a car door with that satisfying sound. The ventilation system at the top of the tent is genius. We got rain one night and didn't notice any intrusion. It was the slightest bit damp by our feet but we thought it was condensation. Zippers and tent material are burly as hell. After two nights I am so looking forward to getting back out next weekend.

I have a shit load of photos from this past weekend if anyone has requests I might have something that fits the bill.

Yes, I can snap close up tomorrow. Here's the closest photo I have of the tailgate area. There is a ledge where the tailgate meets the X1, but i did not notice any water intrusion into the bed. And yes, panels move out of the way for full access to the bed.

    SPX1_Thanksgiving-137.jpg

Don't have a photo of the panels moved toward the cab, but they all can fit into the area that overhangs the cab.

Oh that looks way better than I was afraid of from that open picture. Looks awesome! Any pictures with more details of the interior space frame?

Yeah they built the original camper off the 3rd Gen and I think they assumed the 2nd Gen was the same. The bed is about 1" taller on the 3rd Gen and the tailgate is also different so the rear door would need to be a little longer for the 2nd Gen. They probably had no idea there was a big difference.

I know i'm being really critical, but the rubber should somewhat overhang the lip on the outer edge. Right now it ends at the flat area of the tailgate, which I don't agree with from a waterproofing standpoint at the moment.

the 5’ camper sits flush to the rear edge of the 3rd gen bed but overhangs the 2nd gen bed by 1-2”...

the 6’ camper sits 1-2” short of the rear edge of the 3rd gen bed, so does it fit the 2nd gen bed flush?

    :pccoffee: watch this space...

GFC uses a similar design for this and they don’t seem to have any issues that I’ve heard of..... and there’s a ton of people looking for anything to complain about on their own forum. In all honesty of you’re (not you specifically. But anyone) looking to put any cap on a truck and expect it to be completely sealed you should buy a van or SUV instead.

I’ve had cap before and it’s sealed, so i don’t think i need to buy a van and I already have an SUV, but thank you. It’s basic waterproofing 101... LEER and Snugtop have it right by having a lip overhang similar to what they did was a fix for the Gen2. There’s nothing wrong with extending the cap by 2” to solve the problem. Having the rubber stop on the flat surface doesn’t make sense unless you’re sloped away. Honestly it’s not all about the water coming in at this point... it honestly just look short just like the other one (Gen 2 version) looks too long.

I’m about to dump $7k on this sucker, so I’m being picky

Are there a lot of "bots" on this site or just negative people?? We have traveled over 7000 miles with the X1 (I've named her Hippolyta) now and no problems. It was 12 degrees in Ely, NV when we were unlocking the wing doors without a problem, we drove on the beach during Thanksgiving and no sand intrusion and it dumped rain in Corpus Christi while we were there and all the weather stayed outside the tent and fuselage. Just ask the owners what their thoughts are on their build without picking apart a photo/picture. I bought this sight unseen and got in during the initial phase, launch edition, and am very pleased with the product. I'm very glad while cruising the web I found this company and I didn't pay over $2000 for a new Lear camper shell that I can't do as much with.
