Alarm or not to alarm?

Ok so I have finally decided on a alarm the viper 5701, found it for 117 shipped.

Found a place to install it for 250$ (that is with the bypass module I need).

The alarm will be a gift from the finance (if I want it) so Ill have to shell out the 250$.

So my thing is, should I do it?

Part of me says yes part of me says no.

I dont live in a bad neighborhood or anything.


So all advice appreciated

 

I went with a compustar remote starter instead

the truck has the chipped key, so it cant be started without the key.

if they want to do a smash and grab, the alarm wont help with that.

the starter also allows me to lock/unlock all the doors at once.

and now that i have the starter, i wonder how i ever lived without.

Yeah that is a good point, I was just thinking if the alarm went off they would run because of the attention.

I have the factory key fob to unlock doors and lock and panic mode.

 

I've had the same compustar system in 3 different vehicles now. The shop I use in town is great and they've done a clean removal/install for me each time.

I don't have the remote start feature which I regret now that I live in a place without a closed garage.

I won't be going back to not having a remote paging system on my truck. Even though it only takes a few seconds to steal something if you really want it, the fact that my truck is armed and I'll know when someone is trying to get is a nice feature to have.

 

Yeah Im getting windows tinted on monday to 5% so people cant see in that well.

Im getting a double din as well, I have some important gear in my truck sometimes (fire gear, rescue equipment etc) so I was thinking I should.

But all of a sudden I was like do I need this not really but I want it so now I was having a inner self battle lol

 

i agree, but they usually run with the stuff they wanted from the truck.

you know how people dont pay attention to car alarms anymore.

you know the little flashing light alone may be a idea???

but having a alarm wouldnt hurt, just make sure who ever does it

knows what they are doing.

 

I was also considering installing it myself, I have done radios before no problem even hard wired them in without a hitch.

My only major concern was if I did get into this and all of a sudden I messed something up then well yeah I'm SOL

I did find a guy on craigslist that said he would do it for 100-150 but Im kinda sketchy of someone on craigslist doing it he told me he is certified and he brings his own tools and can do it in my driveway......

Yeah I think the biggest gratitude of having this one is if it goes off the remote tells me.

 

The same guy on Craigslist is the one who will probably come back and steal it.

and it sounds like it was wired wrong

I didnt have the time, so it was easier to have the dealer do it

plus then if there were any problems, they had to fix it.

But no problems yet

 

How much was the remote starter, installed, from the dealer?

Hey that other guy is me HAHA

I got the compustar brain, 2 remotes with remote start, lock, unlock etc, and the bypass module needed, all shipped to my door for $120, so compared to the $550 quoted to me for the exact same components installed, I decided to attack it myself with a friend... that being said, as mentioned now I'm dealing with a few interesting issues.

to the OP, I have done a few car stereos myself, and I'll tell you what, once my buddy had the whole dash ripped apart and was splicing wires everywhere and there was a straight up rats nest of wires hanging down from my dash, I was overwhelmed haha. I would NOT suggest doing this yourself. I saved $400+ from what I got quoted, but me and a friend spent about 10 hours installing and troubleshooting and eventually ended up with a system that works about 85% correctly at the moment LOL
