I suppose that it should be mentioned. You can load up all of the KWI files on a USB drive and the H/U will pick the proper one to flash.

Also, there is no obvious relation between the KWI files names and the Audio version. This is how you tell:

KWI file is the Model ID that you see in the Software Update screen. Audio version 0101A4 is a higher version than 01019E, so this will be a valid update for me:
    upload_2020-11-30_10-10-18.jpg

The Audio version after the FW update can be seen by opening the KWI file in WordPad. It will take a while for the file to display:
    upload_2020-11-30_10-15-55.jpg

The H/U update instructions explain the Audio version numbering.

Thanks for that. I have never attempted that before, as I wasn't sure if the HU was smart enough to ignore the non-applicable files.

When we got Version 158 a while back, that was how we were told that the techs load it.

So worst case, you download everything from @ktbell444's link onto a thumb drive and the Tacoma either picks the correct file and updates or it doesn't because you already have that version?

    Foolproof is real.

It really surprises me that the ECU can be soft-bricked considering all the other safety measures. But, I believe it was said that our ECUs are memory limited, so there might not be enough room for a second partition to validate a flash?

Second time is the charm boys. :woot:
Hooked up battery, started truck, inserted USB, clicked update and started driving. Pulled over when it was done, pulled the USB and started it back up. Done!
    Thanks OP!

Yes. I believe you would have to put the files in the main directory of the USB drive? Not 100% sure there, but harmless either way.

If the FW version is the same as you currently have, it will present that, showing the same versions in both columns, but not allow an 'update.'

You likely don't have this update, as the TSB was revised within the last two weeks. But yes, you shouldn't have to be concerned about updating.

Will do. My HU has been self muting and rebooting even after the 161 kwi update.

Oh yikes! Sorry about that. I would not expect an update to cause the issues that it is supposed to eliminate.

    :fingerscrossed:

Thanks man, just installed on mine. Only oddity was that I had to use the file from the 2019, it's the only one that matches up with my radio, but I have an 18. It's a very late 18 so maybe I have a 19 radio?

What does this update do specifically? I'm curious before I try to fix/upgrade something that's not broke.
