Toyota seriously needs to jump on that for all their models. I think they'll be there in a few years. Slowly making their way up

Yep they committed to a hybrid option for every model by 2026 I think, it was a press announcement, not sure on the exact year. 4th gen is slated as a MY 2024, 100 bucks says there’s a hybrid.

It needs to look cool though. Seriously. Not something going to Mars.

For real. The next gen Tundra will tell us a lot about what to expect styling wise going forward. We'll see...

After seeing the recent leaks, I'm a bit worried where they are headed with design...

I remember seeing those but couldn't find them last night. Yeah hopefully that's not the direction they take.

I mean that one that is camo and partial is the Tundra along with those terrible rear lights and built in light bar, etc. that were leaked. I'm gonna keep high hopes but so far that thing looks UGAF, can only imagine what will happen to our poor Tacoma come gen 4 if that's the current design cue.

I like the Rivian a lot and it did well on Long Way Up. They improved its range greatly over those two initial trucks for the release next year. The tow regeneration is nice.

I hate the look of the Tesla, but it has supercharging. I wish they would license that out to other EVs. Hopefully the open market can catch up on the lead Tesla has on supercharging and batteries. Another big win for Tesla is their full self driving, they are leaps and bounds ahead here. Super safe cars too, some dude just plowed through 2 trees at over 100mph and walked away without a scratch. The batteries in the car went flying and flaming into nearby houses though. Tesla seems to have shit quality control and reliability though. Consumer Reports just destroyed all their cars with the exception of the model 3. Plus their repair network is shit, wreck your car and prepare to not see it for 6-12 months.

    nikola just no.

EVs are almost there for me. I’d like one, but I would have to have one with 500 mile range minimum and charging at the level of supercharging, but not look like the cybertruck. 50-60k cost is a good spot with the money you will save on maintenance and gas. Yes, electricity to charge is far cheaper than gasoline by a good bit. Plus some places will have free charging. My work offers free charging at a lot of generating sites, unfortunately they haven’t come to the hydro generation yet or I may have already bought a model 3 for commuting.

Tesla has made me a good bit of money in stock though.

If I had taken the $25.5k that my 2019 Taco cost and bought TSLA instead, there would be about $220,000 in my brokerage account right now.

I am all for EV trucks, but I think they need exist before we actually get excited. Also, there is a global battery shortage. That is one reason why the price of entry to the EV world is so much. You need way more battery on a truck than a small sedan if you want livable range. Again, I am not anti-EV. I've driven a Tesla and I was blown away with it, but electric cars make much more sense than electric trucks as of now.

Tesla is building their own battery factories to eliminate this issue. They have made some pretty good developments with their batteries. Should be interesting when they get their factories fully built out like they presented at their battery day presentation. Will help a lot with waste and environmental impact of batteries as well.

I thought the issue with batteries was limited availability of precious minerals needed to make them, not sure if building a battery factory could solve that particular part.

The Ford truck EV is RIVIAN guts and electronics with a Ford body on top.

They went through all this, look up the battery day presentation on YouTube. It’s very dull but was very interesting to me as an EE. They are developing ways where they can recycle and use new processes to eliminate the need for limited materials. They want to get to the point of being able to just use recycled materials and abundant resources to produce all their batteries.

From what I read the sentiment is that in 5 years the price of a 300 mile EV will be 25k or less due to emerging battery technologies.
