Thanks guys for all of the suggestions and information! I appreciate your time in helping me decide what to do. I think I'm going to grab a soft tri-fold cover, I just need to figure out which brand to use since there are dozens to choose from.

There are many makes and models of this type of cover. I have a Lund Genesis Elite, which has the special feature of the cover material being quality convertible top fabric.

I have the Extang Trifecta 2.0. Works well for what it is. Fold it back for items such as a wheel barrow. Take it off in a few moments for something like a dump run. Leave it on for the rest. They're not overly expensive and will last for years.

    Cheers.

FYI - there are three aluminum cross members on the underside. They roll right up with the cover. I like that it gives you full access to the bed (especially with the 5' bed). I can lay on it and it doesn't budge. No issues with snow/ice accumulating.

I had a soft roll-up (Truxedo Truxport) and loved it on my old truck. I have the OEM tri-fold on my Taco, and it’s okay. I added some weatherstripping in spots to make it more weather-resistant, but it’s still not as dry as my soft cover was. I’d recommend a cover, but whatever you get, I recommend getting one that allows full access to the bed without having to remove the cover. The OEM cover does not do that, and it’s frustrated me a few times. With that said, it’s not difficult to remove. A single bolt and you’re on your way.

I have a roll up cover and love it. Only takes up a few inches rolled up. Worth it if that's what you're after. Only takes a few minutes to install or remove most. Some of the low profile ones(like mine) require more as you have to remove bed rails and reattach.

I use this cover too and it's great. Easy enough to roll up when you need the full bed space and keeps everything dry when it's rolled back out and locked down.

You just fold it up for most of your bed , it’s not hard and takes all of 2 minutes maybe to fold and unfold and it takes all of 4 or 5 minutes maybe to take if all the way off of you need the whole bed

I recently been needing the full bed for moving stuff and I have my cover off all the time now , but when I done I’ll put it back on because I like having the bed covered and tailgate locked

I got a Tyger as well, soft Tri fold. It's been great! It's already snowed a lot here and has held up great.

I was on the fence as well, Sometimes I want to use my full bed for hauling brush, sometimes I want things covered. Looked at a softopper and a lot of tonneau cover, finally got a Lomax, I thought it more secure than the softopper and far easier to get in and out of or totally remove. No regrets, I love it. Takes 10 seconds to fold it and access things, less than a minute to totally remove with no tools required. I got the Lomax Professional diamond plate from Luke @truckalter at Truck Alterations for hundreds off retail price, super sturdy. Can also get the standard Lomax in matte black, gloss urethane black, or diamond plate (without the extra brace in the middle the Professional has). They also have a new Lomax Stance model.

The ratio of the number of times it’s been specifically advantageous to have a cover on to the number of times I’ve needed to remove it is at least 25:1. Maybe 50:1. It all depends on how you use your truck.

However, soft covers, tri-folds and others easily retract without requiring removal. To me it’s a no-brainer.

Does the Truxedo Lo Pro do a good job at keeping water out? That's my biggest concern.

Go with the cheap tri-fold! I got mine on Ebay for $200 9 years ago, been piled high with snow probably 100 times, no fraying or discoloring, keeps dry and “pine-needle free” inside, easy on/off/partial fold, heck I even ran over it once, still looks fine, and, if it gets ripped off you’re not out a bunch.

I have the a tri-fold hard cover. Love it when it's on. Love it when it's off.
Best thing about it is I can have it off in minutes and install it back on in minutes.
Only down side is it gets super freaking hot in the bed during the summer months
so I cannot keep my golf clubs back there. Keep it on a lot in the winter. Not so much
    in the summer months.

Bakflip has been one of the best purchases for my truck. Pretty much gave me a 6ft trunk. Prior to that I struggled to find a place to store things securely and I felt the bed was wasted when I wasn’t carrying anything.

I bought it for $600 a year after I got my truck and it has been a godsend in a lot of situations. Added a pop n lock to my tailgate and it adds some security, although not top security, it’s good enough to prevent most thefts. It’s not 100% waterproof, probably 95% which again is more than good enough

Pulled the trigger on the Truxedo Lo Pro since they're on sale through tomorrow. Seems to check all the boxes in what I'm looking for and for a moderate price. I'll get a picture of it once it arrives and I get it installed.
