UTAH (and Surrounding Areas) BS Thread

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone vandalized it, but didn't expect someone to steal it this soon.

 

It is the world or at least country we now all sadly live in.

 

I’m bummed that someone took it already but in all honesty I’m happy that it isn’t just attracting a bunch of insta-YouTube-shitty blog type folks out to a lesser known portion of the state, crushing crypto and leaving trash in their wake.

Yeah I saw a couple of those as well, article in the Salt Lake Trib this morning already had the BLM saying they were seeing a lot of trampled vegetation and charmin tulips in the area. I guess at least they are consistently assholes instead of a patchwork of good and bad actions.

At least it is gone now. I agree with all of the above posts, this was attracting undo attention.

So if you follow saltlakeoffroadExpo, they have a story on witnessing the take down. Some guys showed up last saturday around 845pm and knocked it over and dismantled it. They carried it out in pieces.

The SLCexpo guys just watched them take it down. The guys mentioned the phrase 'leave no trace'. They were right. Many you-tubers and IG people are making money off of going to the structure. Many of those people also have a history of mentioning 'leave no trace'. Some are kind of hypocrites if you ask me.

The SLC expo people showed drone footage of many cars just parked randomly over the desert terrain.

 

That guy used to have a Tacoma. I am somewhat getting tired of Instagram and you-tubers that are putting out sponsored videos. Those places were originally meant for personal trips/ pictures that you could share with friends and family. Now some of my instagram 'friends' put a # for every manufacturer on every post they put up.

It is almost like everyone is striving for making a career out of getting free shit. Guess I am turning into an old man..

 

Im just over here wondering if they have it on copy paste, or they type each one of those out every time? It must be a full days effort to type that many hashtags into every post!

Some of my friends and I had a conversation about this. Art projects through the proper channels, like the Spiral Jetty, or the Lucin Sun Tunnels, are awesome, and can enhance the landscape. Had this monolith been on the up and up, it would have been really cool! With honestly little impact on the area. But it was put there illegally. And when it was discovered, it made national news. My wife showed me a Tiktok of some a-holes that drove 15 hours to get there, ripped through the landscape, parked wherever the hell they wanted, and made an absolute mess. All on video. That's insane! And that dude that's local, come on man. Racing to get that content, and garner more exposure. I know he wasn't making a mess of the area, but adding to the swath of videos about it, only opens up the invitation to more people. Geotagging used to be the main killer of these areas, but I honestly think it extends to making videos of it, as well. I'm so damn tired of seeing special places in the Uintas in these videos. No, they aren't tagging the location, or posting coordinates. But you're exposing it to the world to research, and go there. Rant over. Haha

 

It doesn't help that guys like Diesel Brothers literally gave out the coordinates to where it was at in their video... This monolith has been there for years and all of the sudden it gets this attention and the area gets destroyed... Just shows that you can't trust anyone with stuff that you find. I've found tons of cool native american sites, petroglyph panels and other cool abandoned things in south eastern utah that little to no one knows about and I plan to keep it that way.

 

Honestly the local news isnt any better.

Remember those ultra blue canals that Fox 13 plastered all over everywhere of people paddle boarding them, etc? Then a week later, surprise surprise, the company that owns them and UHP were like "um, thats private property, and y'all are def trespassing" Then Fox goes "our bad" Way to verify a story before you report. "Journalists" these days smh...
