Bummer. mine still looks brand new.
Acid eats a lot of various metals.
How did you not notice this earlier?

i've had one of these for roughly 17 months and i just dont know what the heck is going on,
why it is starting to seriously degrade

i am neither a materials science nor chemical smarts guy that knows what's happening, but something funky is!
never have i had corrosion buildup on the battery terminals, they are sprayed
are the 'invisible' battery fumes eating away at this hold down and/or the coating
not exactly sure what to do here...
anybody else out there with one of these running into this problem?
battery is about 5yrs old so still a few years likely left onit

i like this powdercoated one much better looking than stock, its really sharp! ... but just something funky is going on now
+ the OEM hook in the rear did not exactly fit properly with the new hold down so i could keep mine color matched with the black and original black nut

its one of these 'spare no expense' things to keep the taco happy happy
its just a real bummer now not knowing what this funk is

do your terminals have corrosion problem? i know the 2nd gens do with the factory stock battery from my relatives '11 truck, i had to spray FF on it to stop the terminal post corrosion

Yes. I've cleaned and sprayed several times and still get major corrosion.

    Lots baby!

I have had a few people have this problem. It is always with a non sealed battery. However there are several people using conventional non sealed batteries that have not had a problem.

If the battery gets overfilled, the acid from the battery is going to eat the powdercoating and then the aluminum.

I have a public service announcement.

If you read a few posts above, I have had a few people on TW, report that have had non-sealed batteries leak a little around the fill caps. If the acid leaks, it will attack the aluminum in the hold down. If you have a sealed battery, this is not a problem. While there have been a few instances of people with this problem, there are a lot of people that have conventional, non-sealed batteries that use these battery hold downs without an issue. Since there have been a few instances, I am warning people that do not have sealed batteries.

If I was considering one of these for purchase, I might co-ordinate this with a sealed battery upgrade.
