Welcome. Probably the worst time ever to try and buy a Tacoma as you’re experiencing. I just met a guy that flew 3 states over to get one and not have to wait. I would recommend calling other dealers outside of your area or state even and not be so dead set on the Pro. The Off Road is pretty sick too and it comes in a long bed ;)

Skip the TRDPro, it is mostly just for show. You can have a shop upgrade a TRD Offroad with better lift, shocks, and tires for way less than a TRDPro at MSRP, let alone the $10k mark up. You can add the appropriate badging, and Pro grille as well if you feel this is needed to complete the look. I guess you have to decide if you want the Pro for just the look or actual function.

Just curious..how long do you feel you are going to live, as you stated you plan to use it for the rest of your life.

Look for an off-road. Depending on the packages, it’ll be configured nearly the same as the pro aside from the wheels and suspension and a couple other cosmetic things. If you want the pro suspension (~$2500) and wheels ($1000), you can swap them out.

Also... you can add heated seats, leather, sunroof among other things aftermarket.
I didn’t want to wait for a day for my truck last December. I found the off road in DCLB and was dead set on leather and heated seats.... but it didn’t have that package so I actually got the dealer to cover the heated seats and got Clazzio leather seat covers... and personally don’t care for sun roofs so I’m happier than I would have been had I waited.

I'm 40 now. So probs another 30 years of driving this until it's time to retire, sell everything and become one of those cool old people that live in an RV. This guy on my street is 77 and has an old Toyo truck he's been driving around for longer than I've been alive. He's my inspiration.

I would absolutely be willing to do this, and am actually considering that as my next move, here if that's what it takes. Just not sure if anyone has gone through the ordering from the factory option, I don't mind waiting, heck, I've waited this long. But yeah, doing all the modifications myself with the skeezy 4 wheel drive shop that is in town does not sound like fun to me. Did your friend find the car online then call and fly out there?

I almost would rather just wait and buy it once stuff goes back to normal than have to deal with buying one, selling it and buying another. I'm so lazy.

did you get the truck weighed? Not sure what exactly you have on the truck but you would be shocked to find you are heavier than you think. For a lot of the guys running drifters with full armor, the stg III is not enough. I thought I was maybe 1000 over about ended up being closer to 1700 over.

also depending on what you do you may end up swapping out most of the pro parts anyway so the Off Road saves you some coin.

+1 - check out the TRD OR

You could travel across 5 states with your SP...
AND get suspension, wheels and tires done by a great shop ...
AND buy killer leather seat covers, AND headlights, AND foglights, AND sliders ....

AND STILL come out ahead on the 10k markup for a PRO.

Agreed. If you try and live "IN" a Tacoma, it would be very hard. If you use it as part of a way of living where you spend more time outside, it's totally possible.

Jon started with a Flippac, then had a prototype flatbed Vagabond Drifter on the 2nd gen. Then he built up and currently takes long trips in his "Gramp Camp" F250 with a 4Wheel Camper. https://expeditionportal.com/featured-vehicle-jon-burtts-toyota-tacoma/
