Ouch. Only thing I can think of that will contribute to the cv issue is weight, 4r is heavier than taco. A good thing RCV provided the solution for you.

Replaced the old CV axle with the new one.

Will be replacing the other side as well, just short on time with holidays coming up and all.

Don't plan on going off road really until the other side is done in which I'll post updates over the long term.

Does the larger diameter shaft not hit the coilover body??
My manual hub CV shafts have barely grazed my 2.5 coilovers so I would think that you wouldn't even be able to cycle the suspension with that kinda change

Tomorrow when there's light out I'll try to snap a better pic.

Just drove 2.5 hours out of town not to mention the driving around town since replacing it.

Replaced mine last night. They don't interfere with OME shocks. There aren't many rocks around here but I do wheel fairly often through rutted and root filled trails. If they fail, this page will be the first to know.

    Nice!

I tried to take a pic but it's hard to while in work clothes.

They don't interfere with my 2.5 coilovers either.

The only surprise was the jump from a 35mm socket to a 40mm socket...

They look pretty damn sweet, and beefy! Progress on my rig is stalled for the moment with other projects, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for further reports once some wheeling is done. Keep up the good work y’all!

They come with a 40mm axle nut? Weird

    Been awhile brother!

My number's still the same, case you ever need an extra hand.

    Yep!

So that box of sockets I got recrntly only helped to get the OEM sized one off (35mm). Good thing I replaced my axle Sunday when the shop was closed as I had to borrow a socket from one of our techs toolboxes :anonymous:

@Malek any way you can get some pics flexing each end of your old axle?

Mine had a torn boot and came apart so I couldn't.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Like axle on the ground flexed to one side or the other? Both of my old axles have torn boots as well, though. They ripped right at the smallest part of the boot where it clamps.

Sub... though I don't have any O'reillys near me.

@theesotericone have you ever had any issues with RCV's blowing boots?

    Yes and no. lol

I'm still running the original boots and they have held up well. The original roll clamps are a fucking joke though. Those have all been replaced with stainless pinch clamps. All 4 of the original clamps blew off on my first shakedown run with the RCV's. I got home and saw RCV grease all over the place. I was beyond pissed. I pulled them and replaced them. Haven't had an issue since.

Been debating what I wanna do lately. Had a boot twist up on me, and I am getting sick of rebuilding OEM cv's. Thing is I am not sure how long I will stay mid travel vs going long travel. Been wanting to eliminate the stub shaft too (busted one of those) and replace it with a manual diff's shaft/tube. From what I have seen while you CAN replace a stub shaft on the trail, it's typically a trip ender. If you get that manual tube you can easily pull and swap one on the trail, but then you are carrying like 30+lbs of metal on the trail with you, for something that may not break as easily as the stock stub. I personally feel the stock allows deflection since it is designed to to be able to easily engage/disengage. I am probably overthinking it all though since I only broke it once bouncing the and hopping the truck.

Finally got some wheeling in during some snowfall. I rebooted my CVs in February with the boot slide mod. Had a trip back in March with 100+ miles of 4WD. Checked the CVs after today with some 50 mph speeds and about 25-30 miles of 4WD. Already have a wear mark on the inner boot but thankfully they aren't spinning full time due to my manual hubs.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to swap to these high articulation CVs and use a manual locking hub outer shaft/tulip housing. I will be adding a winch to my ARB at some point but I doubt that would drop my OME 882/nitrochargers down enough to change that inner boot angle.

If shipping wasn't an issue, I'd send you my extra OEM ADD cv axle. It needs new grease and boot but at least you'll have one to take apart and see if you can frankenstein it.

Yeah it's the inner boots on our 1st gens thats usually what rubs and tears. I lowered mine to wear the outer fins weren't touching and figured I was good but those inners still rubbed and continued to tear until I got it down to the point they no longer rubbed.
