what year is your taco?

 

According to his profile it’s a 2019 but they are the same 2-3rd gen either way

I'm interested as well- Why the switch up? Wind noise or rain leakage?

 

I had a 2011 Taco with the rack and it worked great. Not really any wind noise unless driving in a bad storm and then you’ll Probly have all kinds of wind noises anyways. I went ahead and got the rack again 9 years later on my 2020 sport. When I got home I realized that the 2020 roof was modified at the shark fin location. The antenna was moved forward @ 1.5”. Supposedly due to brake light leak issues? Makes no sense. In any event, Tacos made in late ‘19 early ‘20’ have this new roof panel. I believe it’s been changed back on newer. The problem I now had was that when you open up the back cross bar and push it down to lock in place, it hits the shark fin (issue #1). As it hit the fin, it also pushes down and buckled in about 20% of the roof metal (issue #2) On top of that the rack is now covering the antenna and XM radio cuts out when traveling East (issue #3 which I don’t care about because XM is a rip-off scam operation). So in the end I had two choices, a dealer refund or.... cut a notch in the cross bar. I chose to notch out the cross bar. It’s a hollow aluminum tube so I had to back fill it with JB Weld. It took several layers to fill it completely and pack in. I then smoothed it round w my dremel tool. It no longer hits the shark fin. But on a brand new $42k vehicle.... that’s some real BFS.
