Why does everybody hate jury duty? It is our civic duty to serve as a juror, and all I hear is grumbling about being summoned again...

I guess I should note that I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and I am a grad student getting my master's in criminal justice right now.

I realize that some people will feel it is a waste of time, and considering you only get $10 a day (hasn't changed since Eisenhower was in office) that really sucks (like the economy). I just think that it is a necessity that shouldn't be responded to with hate and planned in detail to get out of.

    Thoughts?

I completely understand. It is frustrating, and there is lots of waiting around. But think about it this way, you are being entrusted with the ability to make a ruling that will affect peoples' lives. Isn't that worth all of your time and effort?

It screws with my already busy work schedule, I lose money, and it's almost always an uninteresting case that should have been solved with a plea bargain (in my experience). But definitely, my biggest reason is work - it totally rapes me in my scheduling and forces me to put in nights and weekends I wouldn't have to otherwise to finish my reports.

Can you tell I've been burned on this?

When I was a student it didn't bother me because I had time. Now that my job expects the work to get done (no matter what) and I have family, I just don't have the time for this "civic duty"

I think some people don't like to have the pressure put on them to choose if someone is going to spend their life in prison, get capital punishment, etc. or walk away a free man. That is a hard decision.

I haven't been summoned. And if they ever try, I will find a way out. No way am I going to spend a whole day in court and get a check for $10...that is absurd. What if the trial goes on for a week? More? Seriously, I'm not a lawyer, and I have no interest in spending any time at all in court.

Imagine being on a sequestered jury. That is a lot worse.

I hate it because I always have to report to Compton.

Last year Compton was rated as the most dangerous city with a population of 75,000 to 99,999, and 4th most dangerous overall.

That is why I hate Jury Duty. They even have armed security in the parking lot!!

I find it insulting to expect me to do my "civic duty" for next to nothing while not getting paid for time off of work while all the court folk, judge, lawyers, security, recorders, and so on get paid their wages.

My days wages should be paid as compensation at least and included in the "Court costs" charged to the loser in the trial.

I have recieved the letter and went through the call and wait to see if I am needed game before.
I have decided that I will not recieve any letter that is not certified and signed by me to show I recieved it.

If I do not get the letter I will not be able to respond.
That is what I do now.
That is how I feel. My time is just as important as the judge's, pay me to show me that it is.

Not sure what that is exactly?

Precisely...pay me what I deserve to at least make it the slightest bit bearable.

I did it and loved it, but my job also pays if you are on a jury(minus the $10). I would of been pissed if i lost money to do it though.
