I just bought a Toyota Tacoma from my neighbor and the key won’t unlock the front door from the outside. the push down knob pops up but not all the way. The passenger side works from outside so I have to go in from passenger

    Year/Trim level?

What happens when you put the key in the lock? Does it turn at all?

    Still thinking about it.
That just sounds like typical old door locks that haven’t been used regularly. The quick and dirty fix could be spraying WD-40 or some other oil with the little straw into the lock.

It has not been used for like 7 months and was never really used so Wd 40 might work

There are several metal rods which [IIRC] run in plastic bushings. It's likely that one of them has failed and the rods can't move enough to operate the lock or latch. Can you get the door open from the inside? If so, pull off the door card and troubleshoot from there If you can't open the door, then you likely have two options: (1) Cut the door card and hope there's enough room to work with it closed until you can get it open; or (2) live with it.

Have you tried smacking the the door and mumbling “open you SOB” while turning the key?

About a week after I bought mine I had similar trouble. Popped out the cylinder & took it to my lock guy. He said someone tried to force the wrong key in it. Had ‘er fixed while I waited.
