Talk me out of getting a Ranger!

I loved my 07 4.0 4x4 ranger as well, indestructable machine and excellent off road. It was very reliable, the only downside was the horrible fuel economy. I was looking forward to the new ranger but after i saw what it was, i changed my mind quite fast haha.

My taco is a huge improvement over my ranger though, its the best vehicle i have ever owned.

 

Ford claims they aren't going to put a V8 in the new Bronco, but that wouldn't be the first time a PR person lied

 

Why? Turbos have lag and start gasping for air way too low in the rev range.

 

I think that new V8 is destined for Large Pickups and Mustangs but not the Bronco, somebody in the Aftermarket will surely do a swap though.

 

I was never happy with this Ranger. So, I traded this Ranger in for my 2020 Taco.

 

Why not? I don't recall too many factory twin turbo v8s that struggle for high rpm power. Mclaren seems to be fine, as does Ferrari. I always thought the American companies went with PD superchargers because it is the more cost efficient way to make power, and (theoretically) easier to maintain

 

Interior on the ranger is super unimpressive to me. Not saying the Tacoma is any better but the Ranger was very "car" like.

 

Versus a Tacoma:

1. Looks
2. Resale
3. Reliability

Not necessarily in that order, but that oughta do it.

 

That's just bad ass though! But I'm old school!

 

Get tacoma, better reliability, resell value, a million options for aftermarket prices. for the transmission problems, get it OVF tuned and problem solved.

 

I got caught up in the disgraceful episode regarding paint on Fords in the mid-80’s. The paint on my Ranger started peeling after less than 3 years. Multiple Ford managers told me it was acid rain. BS. I went up through several layers of management and they all towed the company line. So I had to pay to have a 3 year old vehicle painted. Later it came out that Ford knew about the problem and made a corporate decision to stonewall customers because it was widespread.
So, I will never own another Ford product. They are a dishonest company.
But I will say, they do make a good looking truck.

 

I am not sure why anyone would trust Ford to not screw you blind with some serious error that they won't fix. Toyota may be kinda bland, but its not going to have a MAJOR problem either.

The most recent Ford issue was the dual clutch transmission in EVERY 6th & 7th generation Fiesta and Focus. That's millions of cars and affects every single one other than the ST.

They are poorly engineered, they will destroy themselves in stop and go traffic. They are all ticking time bombs. The fix is that Ford extended the drivetrain warranty to 100k and then they say you're on your own. They are replacing the transmissions with the same exact ones that just fail again after 20k miles. There are no repair parts, you just have to put in another flawed tranny.

The GF has 63k miles and is on her 4th transmission, and there are always several cars waiting for transmissions every time we go to the dealership.

Knowing that any Focus or Fiesta out of warranty will be worthless because there are no alternative transmissions that could be retrofitted, would you trust this company to sell you a new vehicle?

 

Those new dual clutch autos are fucking horrible, I was going to get a little Hyundai turbo for a commuter and the dual clutch felt like shit. Ford no different.

Also the new 21+ Ranger looks a lot better.

 

The current Ranger is quite different (and not in a good way) from the previous generation of Rangers. I have a 2000 Ranger XLT, and I love it, but the time is coming for replacement. Naturally I looked at the current Rangers first. No joy. For one thing, I couldn't get a manual transmission in one. Actually, the Tacoma is the closest thing to the 2000 Ranger that's on the market!

 

And having to deal with a Ford dealership. Pass.

I just LOVE that the ranger comes with a diesel fuel option!

 

I remember diesel Ranger's back in the 1980's.
