In these situations I try to look at it as if the situation were reversed and react the same way to her that she would have reacted to you if you had done these things to her new car. My guess is there would be some yelling followed by a huge guilt trip. In the end the offending party would feel obligated to make it up to the other person in some form or another.

Get rid of her, tell her your truck means more to you than she does.

I feel your pain. New vehicles seem to be a magnet for things like that. My wife was picking up take-out in her 5 day old 2021 4Runner and the guy handing her the food dropped it and honey mustard spilled all over the center console. I had to pull it all apart and clean it out.

Oddly enough, the exact same thing happened to one of her coworkers and her one week old car getting take-out from the same restaurant. Needless to say, we don't get take-out from there anymore.

My solution was to get a manual that she could not drive. She has no interest in my truck now. :)

I get what you're saying. I bought my Taco in April and it has no door dings or other damage, however I'm real careful about where I park. I generally don't allow eating in my truck but when my truck was a month old my GF left an ice cream cake in the back seat which partially melted and left a small stain. I blew a gasket and for a few minutes we debated why I care about a stain on the backseat when I regularly beat it up off-road. We've moved past it but I hold pretty firm to the no-eating rule, although in a couple of weeks we're taking a long road trip so I'm sure that rule will get bent a little.

In the end they can be fixed. My suggestion is to fix it as quickly as possible. A few years ago I got a deep scratch on the tailgate of my other truck when I was moving some furniture. I had the tailgate at a Body Shop being re-painted the next day.

Ya - with it being my first new truck it holds some serious value, especially at that price range cause I ain't rich lol - If I could easily toss 100-200$ for a new corner bumper panel I would, but with Christmas around the corner I probably wont have enough dough to toss that way. Just gotta save now for that steel bumper.

    1. Have the LOYL ride in the truck bed when eating or holding food.

    2. Put her in the boat, you back it down the boat ramp.

    3. Door dings happen. Sometimes these can be pulled with a suction cup, depending on the severity.

this sucks and we all feel for you you. I was driving my new to me truck and within the first week had oncoming traffic somehow kick a rock up that dented the rocker below the door big like a golf ball. hit me so hard I heard it and thought someone shot a gun nearby. it was pouring outside and I couldnt really look at it until later that day. called and scheduled an appt to get the damage fixed as bare metal was showing. surprisingly didnt cost me all that much, i think like 200$ tops and came back good as new.

What is more valuable, the truck or your lady? Everybody is different but didn't you purchase your Tacoma to use as a truck? It is a utility vehicle after all. Heck your handle is The_Family_Taco, every family vehicle I've been in has some battle scars haha.

this thread makes me feel better about not letting people eat in my truck. its one thing to damage something doing risky stuff and having fun. its another to damage it from being negligent. i got pretty pissed when i got a scratch installing my bed rack. could totally have been avoided. got caught in a hail storm a few weeks after and was kinda meh since i had no control over it. i did put seat covers in and a little more lenient on eating in there, depending on what it is.

Buy her a new car and return the favor. Actually that costs more than repairing the mentioned damage... I’ll see myself out.

If you have kids in the truck, then you better plan on food being spilled.

Kid kibble gets everywhere. I don't know how the yard apes did it, but I found kid kibble under the floor mats.......the kids were in car seats at the time. Cleaning the ninnivan was always an adventure. Heard after finding a lump of something, "What the He77 is this? Damn kids."

I'm the same as far as babying my Taco. I have a 2017 TRD Pro manual. There were only 25 TRD Pro manuals in each color made every year so my truck is a rare bird. I as well try to baby as much as possible. Except... I have kids. Two of them. I have rules as far as limited eating in the car and it's really only dry snacks on occasion. My 7-year old son liked to open the door of our Highlander w/out caution and started adding blue scuffs on the side of my truck. So, I added door edge protectors to my wife's Highlander which helped. I've added rock sliders early on with the initial intention to protect doors from hitting the side of my truck (yes... not kidding... I would've been fine waiting another year to get sliders but wanted them for this protection immediately). With all of this, I'm also a bit nervous driving it as I picture what would happen if the truck were to get totaled and I wouldn't be able to get lucky again finding another TRD Pro manual.

But... none of this matters. Why? Because the three most important things to me in this world are my wife and our two kids. Everything we do revolves around our kids. People complain about why we buy 3rd gens (I sold my 1st gen to buy my Pro). The fact of the matter is the 3rd gen is the safest Toyota Tacoma to date. I mainly bought it to tote around my precious cargo (the three I mentioned) while still having something I would absolutely enjoy and be proud to own.

So my story is... get married to your best friend, have kids, and your outlook on what matters will change vastly. (also, I like taking care of my toys and there are plenty of little death stares when the family bumps into my truck. lol)
