It's perfectly acceptable to have the SRS module reset. It's $50 ish from very reputable companies and common practice for independent body shops.

The process to initially validate a safety module like SRS is insane, hundreds of thousands of inputs to verify it reliability actuates. Extreme temperatures and accelerated aging is standard to ensure it functions in all conditions even after 20 years dormant.

To say it's once and done is ridiculous, BUT to be sure most manufacturers don't provide the tools due to extreme desire to avoid the liability. Plus dealers, not the brightest bulbs.

Side note, you can indeed build once and done electrical chips with internal fuses. It is often used as tamper protection and warranty on high value chips.

 

For sure. A “mid travel” setup can be made to take a lot of abuse.

keeping a taco stock width while not blowing airbags requires the following:

-2.5” coil/over and 2.5” secondary shock up front. Aftermarket Upper arms, and reinforced lower arm frame tabs and spindle gusset. Bonus points for new lower arm.

-62” sprint under conversion with bolt in bed cage for 16” shocks and bolt in bump stop kit.

-keep a spare power steering rack (cheap) in the truck to swap out when u break it or do a tundra steering rack swap.

with that crap you can have fun without going LT or buying a trailer and hauling a RZR. After owning LT trucks and towing out green stickered toys I think the funnest time I had in life was with a stock truck and bolt on mid travel setup. No need for extended axles or roll cage or fuel cell or trailer tax or toy hauler. Most parts can be replaced with oem, can also drive it around town as your DD saving insurance and registration.

 

I have seen it in the rock crawling community. We all started with ifs rigs, then a flop or sick of replacing steering parts, so SAS it. Then harder lines so 40”+ tires and back half it(truggy), then full tube buggy, then sell it and buy a stock samauri and have more fun than the point and shoot rigs. Spend all the extra monies on strippers and ice cream.

 

I agree but I went another direction. I have Green Sticker toys but I also have two street-legal Buggies which do well off-road, can be driven or flat-towed on the road legally and can be driven around town. My VW Thing (with long-travel suspension and turbo Ford engine) is hands-down the best dirt car I've ever driven or owned. In my area there is no way to make a Rzr or side-by-side street legal so owning one has never appealed to me.

yeah I thought my windows shattered from the loud noice airbags didn’t even touch my face. All in all I was super impressed with them.

^This. Insurance Fraud is a crime. If you're going to go through Insurance, be honest. Talk to your agent first before calling the claims department... they will have a pretty good idea of what will be covered and what won't. They should be able to advise you as to whether you're better filing a claim or eating the cost yourself.

Part of that honest data should be where you were, etc... I often drive on trails/dirt roads that are actually shown on my GPS as a road. This sort of thing could happen there, so would this be considered "off roading" if the road is listed as a road on the Toyota GPS or Google Maps as a named road? I don't know the answer, but details like this may help if you get into a pissing contest over whether or not this is covered and if you were "off roading" or simply driving on a dirt road with no posted speed limit. If you were at the OHV park, then its likely more cut and dried...

 

I agree. This is where it pays to be with a company where you deal with the same Agent on a regular basis. I call mine before I buy a new vehicle to see what sort of rates will be on it or to ask general questions. Hopefully I'll never have to ask mine about this!

 

Fraud is one of the biggest reasons this country is a wreck .

There was one on a dealer lot for a looooong time just before I got my drivers license. I used to stop and look at it just about every weekend. It hurt a bit when it was sold.

I still want one. That Icon electric conversion was pretty lusty also.
