Which is the best 3" lift

Hey guys, I got a 2001 2wd D/C tacoma and looking to get a 3" lift for my truck. Looking for the best 3" for my money, hoping to spend less than $500 cause of costs right now. I've been looking at the tough country 3" lift; any ideas on that or any other lifts. Put puts up if you can.

First off, welcome to TW.

Second, the search button will give you more information than you could possibly ever need.

Third, what kind of lift are you looking at? If you only want looks, a body lift will work perfectly fine. A good majority of people here use Billy 5100's at all four corners, with OME 881 (Old Man Emu) springs, and some kind of AAL or leaf replacement kit for the rear. A couple people have used Wheelers 5 leaf pack and say they get a pretty even lift. Maybe someone who has it can chime in.

 

For the best but cheapest 3" lift IMO will be, Eibach 3" lift coils with 5100's set at 0" and extended rear shocks of your choice, a AAL or a new leaf pack. But a new leaf pack will by far exceed your $500 limit. So just get a 2" AAL. For the best websites/deals to buy from look at our vendors. But with a 3" lift you will need to extend your rear brake lines and some type of brake valve braket (cant think of the name, but its located on your rear differential) and possibly a carrier bearing drop bracket.

 

Thats like $600+.

 

pay the extra few bucks for Old Man Emu. you wont be disappointed.

I like the revtek 3" lift...its $350... coil spacers in the front and blocks in the rear...while you have the whole suspension apart add in some new bilsteins and your good to go. Thats what i have on my '01 and it works great.

 

"Best" is highly subjective.

What do you want to do with it? Is it just for looks or are you gonna wheel the shat out of this thing?

 

Don't put blocks in the rear.

I would agree on the OME. Rode pretty well. My lift is well over $500 though now (King coilovers, full OME rear), but it started on my old truck as OME in the front and shackle lift in the back and it was just fine.

 

Since you asked for the best I'd suggest Icon coilovers in the front ($1050) and in the rear you can go with Icon resi's ($400) and Deaver leafs ($500+). You'd probably want to get beefier tires too so there's another $800+.

Seriously, if you look around you can piece together your lift with used parts. When I first lifted my truck I was able to lift it for $100. I bought a spacer kit that was already installed on the OEM struts and extended shackles for the rear. Recently I sold the spacer kit for $60. Spacers aren't the best but I never had any problems.

 

You forgot UCAs ($650ish) and wheels to clear the new tires ($800ish) or at least spacers.

 

I have been looking at the tough country 3" lift. What do you think about that? I would like to get 33" tires with new wheels but that will cost me around $1500 so that's why I was hoping to get a cheaper 3" lift for clearance. I don't do a lot of offroading but getting into it.

 

I have heard so much about the OME lifts and stuff with it. Sounds really beast. I just wish the price was a little cheaper. Right now I just want to get clearance for tires but in the future get a really nice lift.

 

If you're "getting into it" and plan to do more, save for the better suspension. In the long run, that's the win. Why pay for something now and pay for something again later? Pay once and be done with it.

No thanks on Tough Country...if you need an inexpensive lift that still has good quality go with Old Man Emu or Billy 5100s with Eibach or OME coils.

 

Cool man thanks, ya it makes more sense to save up for it but that means I won't get it for another 2 years being in college and other payments but will be worth it in the end.

 

try searching on ebay, when I first started looking I was looking for something inexpensive just like you but I ended up talking myself into just replacing everything with new springs and going all out. You can find 3 inch lift blocks(with u-bolts) or lift shackles for about 60-100 bucks and I think you can get spacers for the front for about 50. So Ya, you can do it pretty inexpensive but I don't necessarily recommend it.... just like everyone else is saying.

If you are only planning on using this setup temporarily and if you don't plan on doing any serious offroading than I don't think it would be that big of a deal. I would just make sure to do plenty of research and searching around before you make any decisions though.

 

I have an 02 taco with the tuff country 3in spacers and blocks in the rear. Listen to everyone else the ride quality is horrible and my truck ended up about an inch and a half lower in the front. The idea of a cheap lift is nice, but i have had the lift for 5 months and im getting rid of it and going with OME. Save your money.
