Simple Powered Sub Install???

I'm looking for a super simple powered sub install. My old truck (F150) was pre-wired for the factory kicker sub and was literally one plug and done. That's about my expertise level too lol. Anyway, I just want something small that will "bump" a little. We had a car next to us at a light the other day and it was so loud it was rattling my mirrors (jerk move by way). I have two kids and they thought it was cool but obviously I don't want to hurt their hearing or anything. I was thinking the Kicker hideaway 8 inch sub or maybe two of them (one behind each rear seat). How difficult of an install would that be?

 

I put a single kicker hideaway under my drivers seat and it provides more than enough bass for my liking. I have it pushing maybe 50% of its capacity (capacity without any distortion...not just “full blast”).

Install was super simple. You just tap into the front speakers, run a power cable to the battery, and ground under the drivers seat.

Big fan of these powered enclosures, they make them in a couple of different sizes. You can either tap signal at kick panels of the front doors, or just pull the head unit. Super easy on the 3Gs, pull bezel, 4 10mm radio is out in less than a minute.

 

I put one of the ACP108LG-W3v3 - Car Audio - Subwoofer Systems - MicroSub+™ - JL Audio behind rear drivers side seat. Had to remove storage panel and notch the crossmember, but it fits fine. Also, if you're looking to replace the factory speakers, I highly suggest Polk MM series. I have 6x9 in rear doors, 6.5 in front, and tweeters. All mids and highs pushed with Polk 4000.1. The sub is just enough, but can easily be overpowered by the mains. They're also marine grade, in case they get exposed to the elements.

However, my truck is a second gen, so take that into consideration as well. Good luck.

The Kenwood under seat sub plugs into the factory fuse box so you don’t even need to connect directly to the battery. Very easy to do

Anyone have an under the seat sub woofer? Looking into adding one for my 2014 SR5 PreRunner DCLB. Just want to know if an under the seat is doable. Also want to know what brand you are using.

 

I have one in my 2020 Tacoma under the drivers seat. I went with the 8” Kicker Hideaway

 

Interesting. I forgot I started this thread. What fuse would I plug into? I'm assuming I'd use one of those add a fuse kits like I used for my dash cam?

 

What exactly would I tap into at the head unit? I'm a total novice to this stuff.

 

Anyone have a pic of the JL micro sub installed so I can see how big it is and how much room it takes up behind the seat?

 

The speaker outputs. Some people do a line output converter (speaker wire to RCA) but the powered micro subs can take speaker level input. Four wires in the dash, or two at each kick panel, power and ground. You’re set.

Not a great pic, but since this was temporary, I just pulled the cubby out and dropped it in. This is the non powered box, but same size.

 

You use one of those kits and it plugs into any switched fuse. I plugged mine into my fog-lights fuse. No problems at all with it a couple years later.
