Good morning fellas, so is anyone here experienced in overlanding? Its definitely something I want to get into but I'm not sure where to start or if I'm gonna need to upgrade/ trade in ny tacoma for a 4x4...I know ot would help

 

BTW sorry I've been MIA for a minute, my new jobs got me driving allot I haven't been able to get on TW since I'm not by a computer all day anymore haha

 

You don't need a 4x4 for overlanding it's just camping pretty much guys in subies put a rtt and awning on and go overlanding

 

Run what you got. 2wd will get you plenty of places.

 

Anyone care to plan a little overland trip in 2021?

All depends on what you want to do and what you expect from your vehicle. I know plenty of guys that just like to run fire roads and never do anything technical. If you're talking more about self-reliant, go anywhere then I would recommend 4x4, lift, and recovery gear. I've never really had traction problems with stock tires but I've popped several. An E-rated all-terrain would be better. A lot of heavy armor isn't necessary. If you anticipate or want to be prepared for aggressive trails then skids and sliders are a great investment. A locker isn't necessary either but it can be invaluable simple recovery option. Same with a winch. Never had to use mine but it adds peace-of-mind.

Best thing is to get out and do stuff. Figure out what you need as you go. Hack stuff together to make it work. Invest money on things where failure isn't an option. Figure out the things that cause you stress and then add things to your set-up that alleviate that stress.
