The opposite argument of this is that the right was going to usher in fascism. The point being that news outlets spew this stuff to divide us and neither are true.

If either were to happen (they won’t) you can find me in Costa Rica living well on my investments.

Yup-on the backs of every working American who pays taxes, tries to live within their means, and tries to save for retirement.

Its crazy these days. I've seen old folks that can't get any help , then 21 year olds get SSI because they are addicted to gambling . WTF

20 years ago i thought i would be working forever. Thankfully my wife was the one that made me sign up for every savings plan my company offered. Im sure i would have blown all our money on the latest thing to come along , but she was the one that would keep me grounded to reality.

I have savings plans with both jobs, but I'll probably always work just to stay busy....

Anyone ever come up with a more interesting way to decide when retirement would actually be worth it?

I took a vacation to Hawaii for a week last year and decided to not track my spending (food, drinks, golf, just the fun stuff not the hotels and all that). I spend about $1k that week.

Since then I have kind of figured a good number is all of the bills paid plus $1k a week would make for a decent retirement (I’m cheap so maybe that’s low).

No matter cheap or semi cheap the room gonna cost you. The good news with your own joint easy to budget into the future.

I was just talking about excess. I have reached the point where passive income is a decent amount more than how I live, but wouldn’t stop working. What’s the point where you have to say screw it I am not enjoining my life enough? An extra $1k a week is probably my number, not there yet.

Same. I still make way more than I spend to live and pay bills.

I'm not gonna sit on the porch and complain about the neighbors.

That is kind of what brought about my question. I’d rather work than do that. But if I made enough I could enjoy it.
