Once it's apart, which is the easy part, then you have to put it back together, so it's learn or be without a truck.
Ask @Sociopenguin how just 'diving in' to my needle bearing worked out at first.... :bananadead:

Well, your truck didn't spend the night. So I'd call that a success.

Are you a machinist? That makes us both Josh and Machinists. This is getting weird....

Didn't make me feel like any less of a dummy.
I'll leave regear to a professional. 1. That takes a skillset I've used very little since finishing Machining School, 2. It's a lot of precision work that requires a knowledge of differential gears.
Anything else, I think I can handle with beer on hand. Although wiring still wigs me out since I REALLY don't want my truck to spontaneously combust. Even though I know I can wire it fine and do very good wiring. My 'fogs' are wired up nice and neat (other than I put in way too much slack). I need to dismantle the winch controller and rewire it into a smaller package so that I don't have a 'shoebox' ziptied into my engine bay.

In order to succeed you must first fail. No one every learned anything getting it right the first time.
Maybe got it right, but probably didn't fully understand the first time. At least in my case.....
Wiring I have also never liked but I have made so many harnesses on DP I have got pretty good at it.

That is the next step I will need to take and also look thru TW for opinions. Not looking for anything big with truck a daily driver but will be used a time or two per month at a friends farm. So if anyone has any suggestions for suspensions, throw them on out there.

So safe to assume that as long as you have the right tools, things much easier if you have the knowledge. Reason why I learned to do brakes and rotors was Firestone trying to sell me them front and back and only ended up needing back pads. So went from over $600 on what they wanted to charge to $25 for set of pads.

I’ll watch how to do the front, but gotta say I watched one this morning for the back with replacing leaf springs and seems a bit more than I want to handle. But guess it will come down to how much installation cost is and is that worth doing it myself.

Believe it or not, those skills, those tools and many more exist in the hands of the people in this very thread.

well, the two limiting factors I would say are your budget and your expectations / needs. As you said, you're just looking for a little bit, nothing crazy. so when someone suggests you spend $10,000 on long travel suspension, just ignore them.

There are quite a few shock upgrades that can be done for fairly cheap from several companies such as Bilstein, eibach etc that will vastly improve your ride without vastly breaking the bank. A few of us have complete kits from OME, as far as being on a budget and getting complete suspension goes, they're hard to beat.

Truth. And we're all friendly. And most of us don't bite...

There's some of us on both sides of Missouri.
And not saying we won't attempt to convince you to spend lots of monies,
but get what suits your build best.

Ask me how I know........and it never stops.

    Leaf springs are real easy.

I just got new suspension myself 8,000ish miles ago. I'd recommend it if you want good priced, quality stuff.

Bilstein 5100s with 887 OME coils
SPC UCA's if you want to go 3 inches
Dakars medium duty without extra leaf
