It make me laugh that there are different month / day formats. If we're not going to jump on the Metric System, we should at least come to a standard format there.

Unfortunately, I think we're (USA) on the wrong side of that argument too... dd/mm/yy (or yyyy) makes way more sense.

However, with my files at work, I use yyyymmdd to keep them in chronological order.

 

I agree with you there. I'm indifferent about format. I just like to be on a standard.

Language is tough enough. Numbers are universal.

Hey, Folks.

I have been thinking about the installation and the lower hole.

While I think the rivnut is the cleanest approach, I am wondering about the small bearing area in tension on the A pillar clip. The welded nut on the upper clip spreads the load to the legs of the clip versus bending of the face.

With that, I'm thinking about finding a washer that fits the OD of the undeformed rivnut or just using the included nutplate with its wide base.

Thoughts?



BTW, nothing moving with FedEx yet. The DAH website was updated, but it has a couple mistakes, so I am not posting it here just yet.

Oh. Interesting. It looks like the left side has only two legs and the right side had three. The angle of the first pic threw me off.

 

You're thinking of using a washer on the back side of the rivnut right, like using a backing washer on a pop rivet with soft thin materials to prevent pull through?

I suppose it comes down to which is the weak component, the rivnut pulling through or the bracket breaking. I would think a back washer would at best help, at worst do no harm - as long as the rivnut is sized for the extra thickness. You may also run into slippage as rivnuts tend to have serrations that prevent twisting, the washer may tend to defeat that feature.

 

Are you using this thing as a tie down point for live loads?

 

By live load, do you mean as an oh-shit bar?

 

Hopefully she didn't cut it off...

 

uh... it would all be live loads. The only dead load is the weight of the handle and pillar molding.
