THanks. I had a '68 and a '72, but couldn't place whether it was from the year before or the year after my '68.

Ok I came across the weirdest car the other day online and fell into a rabbit hole researching it. Turned out to be very cool and way more interesting than the odd picture suggested. Anyone know this car?

It was an Aero Torino for NASCAR if memory serves me.

Yup, the 70 Torino king cobra. 428 and front aero package. Really interesting stuff to try and side step homologation rules for nascar. They got slapped down hard and just gave up on the cars altogether. This one has a 2 speed rear end as well. The late 60s early 70s homologation cars are interesting. At first look I thought it was a lotus Europa, but didn’t quite look right.

I knew that one, a bit late to the party though. It’s a Ford Torino Talladega. Super rare car that was built to compete against the Plymouth and Dodge wing cars in NASCAR. A very small amount were sold to the public in order for Ford to compete. I had actually saw one in person in Lemon Grove California at a Home Depot in the mid 1990’s. It was a gold one and I wasn’t sure what to think of it until I was lucky enough to talk to the owner who explained it to me.

The one I saw in person had the slant nose like the yellow one. Wild and weird looking ride. I stood there looking at it thinking it was a custom deal until the owner walked out and I questioned him.

Ford King Cobra Never Got To Dominate NASCAR (fordauthority.com)

They never made it to production because of the rule change on how many had to be sold, a small handful (less than 5) of prototypes made it to the general public thru family members. I can only recall seeing a Red, Yellow, and White for colors, maybe the one you came across possibly was a clone.

I went searching in my archives for a rare Ford I saw. It was a 1970 blue CJ428 Torino. I can’t find the photo but I came across this for you Ford guys.

Well that’s disappointing. I distinctly remember it being gold, I guess it was a clone. The guy led me to believe he has something really rare.

A 390 car. It’s local to me and I’ve seen it a couple of times. Sounds nasty in a good way.
