here’s hoping it’s a warmer 52° today. Want to try out my pressure washer and foam cannon on the truck.

 

What's up MD peeps!

Have a promising job offer in the works which will require me and the wife to relocate to southern MD, specifically within an hour of PAX. Over the summer I had a 2 month TDY gig that gave me a decent gist of the area, but does anyone have some recommendations on areas to avoid/look into?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks gents.

 

What county are you looking at?

 

Lusby is a pretty good area with cheap houses...new construction in the $300ks...Huntingtown (north of PAX) is a little higher cost and bigger houses. St. Mary is across a big bridge, but has more shopping, etc. Technically, Annapolis is an hour (ish) north, if that is closer to your liking. There's some goodness and semi-badness kinda mixed about down there, with no particular area (that I'm aware of ) being too crappy. Good schools too, if you have kiddos.

 

All of them. We've been searching everywhere within an hour commute of PAX. The north cutoff is pretty much Waldorf/Huntingtown, south is, well, the ocean.

Have found a handful of places is Lusby and Mechanicsville that we really liked... and have since sold.

Good to know. While I was down there, it seemed like Lexington park had some areas to avoid, but that was it.

 

I live in Huntingtown. I love the area where I live. Expect to pay $400k on up if you are in the central to North end of Calvert. Southern Calvert (Lusby, Solomons, Dowell, maybe Saint. Leonard) are a little less. I am told that it is a sellers market right now. From the Prince Frederick area it is about a 40 minute commute to the front gate at PAX. Also about a 40 minute commute to Andrews. Just be aware that if you are going to commute between Calvert County and PAX you will have to deal with the bridge and bridge traffic between Calvert and Saint Marys.

 

I would try to avoid Waldorf. It has gotten way too populated. You might also look South of Pax down near Ridge. It is more rural but you might luck out and find something, probably a fixer-upper, on the water.

 

I work in Waldorf and live in LaPlata. Traffic is bad during the week and twice as bad on the weekends. There's the usual restaurant chains here. The mall is horrible and not worth the time. The outlets by National Harbor aren't too bad. Check out this local forum for some more info, but take some of it with a grain of salt. www.somd.com

I was thinking the same thing and checking those banned members posts but didn’t see him there.

He must be busy hitting up the Walmart’s and Targets showing his rig off to people looking for PlayStation’s and Xbox’s.

 

Deale, Chesapeake beach, shady side are all pretty nice. Waldorf can be a little Hood. I’d avoid that area.

 

Stopped and “browsed” at a rubicon gladiator today. $43k sticker price. $60k dealer pricing.

I work in West Baltimore city so Waldorf is only sorta hood to what I’m used too. LOL

 

Wasn’t he waiting on a surgery ?

 

He has been talking about an issue that he had to remediate. So he will be off line for the duration.
