I don't think so, I don't recall it being required in the instructions, but I wanted to tie it all together with the CO bucket real well. Compared to the newer version, maybe my upper mounting tabs will be the right length for a DK spec bypass with the spacers in there. Edit: I will have to source some longer hardware for the DK spec CO though.

Well it doesn't look too bad from the pic you provided so if you can salvage it let me know! A sawzall may be a better fit for this job. :sawzall:

Bolt on is strong enough - gusseting the bucket along with the bolts would be more effective than welding the hoop to the bucket - those three bolts would have enough yield strength to hang your truck from.

Yea that's a great idea. I need to get one, I've needed one for a long time, so it doesn't enter my thought process. SMH sometimes I need to get my brain out of my back side. It will be awhile before I get to this install though.

I'm glad someone's getting into it - makes for more engaging discussion. Overkill doesn't hurt, but well planned overkill is obviously what people shoot for when dropping big coin on trucks. Sam's truck is a good model to follow if you're looking to do something similar with your ride.

Sam is who I've been following for years. I been seeing pics of his truck since the mid 2000s, before I even owned my 4th gen. Had a copy made of his bumper, mostly because I liked the look, but also because of the detail of pictures taken of it through the build and afterwards. Like I commented earlier, NO ONE knows what a real prerunner is here in the swamps, (except a decal on the fender of a Taco), so I needed a proven idea to start with on my bumper. I just wish I had the coin to start with the +3.5" in the first place.

Totally agree with the planning stages, and I dropped the ball for the most part on this truck.
Buy once, cry once has a lot of meaning right about now lol.

well I mean if you have the funds for ranchos why not! I think the monroe Sears edition do great in heavy stuff like Barstow main as long as they paired with a 20” wheel minimum!

Anyone in SoCal or Cali at all... my job closed up shop and cut us all off today, very short notice! Assholes!!! They took back my 08’ access cab 4wd w da 4.0

if anyone has lead on tacoma 4wd v6 1st or 2nd gen around 120 to 200k for decent price let me know!!! Or a single cab prerunner/4wd but must be a manual. New gig starts Monday and doesn’t provide work truck just mileage.

I hope to have my prerunner build done at some point in next few months, past the latest goal he set for it to be rolling... again  one day I shall return to the dirt!

Sucks, c19 casualty? You might hit the 4Runner page too. Lot of those guys have Tacos, or maybe have a line on one.

not really covid related, just new management for western region and he made call to stick with just engineering side.

just getting feelers out. Wife would be pissed if I bought one but it is needed so... easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!

Sorry it’s true, Toyota’s espically shitty Tacoma’s just don’t have the reliability or aftermarket performance options that like a Mazda or Isuzu has :duh:

well I mean if you can afford ranchos I thought was expected you would skyjacker/hellwig helpers for the rear... do I need to say double stacked 2” spacers for the proper stance or can we assume everyone would expect that as well.

At this point I would just assume it’s expected. And glass packs or gtfo!

Y’all’s bump stop strike plate look like this? I know the right side is shifted forward. I’m talking about the half moon strike zone. I'm chasing a handing issue. This time I know the rear housing is way bent, towed out. Rear spring and hanger bushings aren't 'new' but not 'old'.

Front of truck top of picture.
