I am new to the forum and wondering if a price a dealer is giving me on a 2011 Tacoma V6 AT 4x4 is a good one...
This is my ultimate dream vehicle and want to make sure I get it right the first time:)
Currently a local dealership salesman is offering me a 2011 Tacoma w/:
    -V6 AT 4x4 access cab
    -sr5 "extra value package" (#2)
    -V6 tow package
    -carpet/floor mats/door sill protector
There price is $27200 w/taxes, etc included
I have done some research and it seems the average sales price in my area is around 26500 (I assume before taxes, etc)
    Any comments/experiences appreciated.
    Thanks.

That's a pretty awesome price... but I'm from Canada so that doesn't help you much. $37000.00 would be an awesome price from my perspective.

It seems pretty fair to me but I know it varies depending on where you live.

    Is there a trade-in involved?

For me it's always the "difference" number that counts, no matter what the new vehicle price is.

If they are giving max trade-in money I am willing to be less demanding on MSRP reduction.

    Yup.
They're offering me KBB for it, and I want to pay off the difference so it doesn't roll over into the truck. And I dont think I'll really make out much better trying to sell it myself. Great vehicle but has cosmetic issues/panel damage. So I could fix the cosmetic things or just pay off the difference...its a wash either way.
The truck itself MSRP is 28879 & the offered sale price of truck before taxes, etc is 26500 (which includes the 500 incentive).
I think it's a farily good deal as it stands but am just hesitant...
I guess it never hurts to ask for a little bit more off the vehicle. All they can do is say no.

KBB trade-in or retail value? It sounds like a reasonable deal.

I live in Ohio and they came off sticker $2000.00 for a vehicle that I ordered. They also gave me close to retail on my trade-in. Which was $1400.00 more than the intial offer. And I did an "out-the-door" deal which gives you one number to look at. I also traded in a summer performance car which probably didn't get me the best dollar.

Expect to have around $350.00 in doc fees.

In most cases unless it is a special edition (TX Pro, for example) they will deal more on existing inventory. At least that has been my experience.

If you're hesitant (I was, too) put a number out there that you're comfortable with. I did that after a little back-and-forth and they met it. With some pain, or so it seemed.

I thinks it's the BEST time to deal on a Taco. As you mentioned, the most they can do is say no.

Good luck. I hope it works out.

All great points! Another thing to consider is looking at a 2010 unless you're sold on the 2011. I bought my 2007 the week before X-mas in '07, it was the last one on the lot and exactly what I wanted. I got a great deal on it because they had so many '08s already up for sale.

If you're set on the 2011, beat them up a little, make them think you'll actually walk away from the deal. Maybe negotiate your trade so you won't owe anything on it.

There's also a lot more to look at than just the price you're paying. For example financing rates and terms can be a big one, extended warranties can also be negotiated.

    Good luck!

Thats a decent deal, try looking at Truecar.com for your area, you can possibly get them down more by taking the pricing to them, if not the website gives you dealerships near you that are willing to sell for that price. Its a really great site that helps. For my area it shows up at $25800

haggle your trade value some more, the 1st # they throw you isnt always their best. when you trade, you never really know what youre paying for the truck and their #'s will be decieving on what theyre actually selling you the truck for cause they.

typically you want to negotiate your best deal buying outright first... and after the smoke clears introduce your trade (notice how right off the bat they always ask if you have a trade or not?).
pay close attention to kbb values on your car for good and fair condition - they never pay full trade, and try to get as close to those #s as you can.

you can take that number down a little further for sure.
i got the DC 4x4 TRD sport with all the goodies and no trade in for 28 after taxes

and alot of that was due to online quotes and upfront paying. its alot cheaper using it, so should look into it.
and for the post above, the exsisting inventory does normally play a role in the price but not always. they didnt have mine so they got it shipped 150 miles to me. can get lucky as long as you get the nice salesman haha

I really appreciate all of the input that you all have given. It's made me slow down a little bit on my offer to the dealer. I basically told the salesman that I needed more time and to not take me off his radar as far as purchasing the vehicle at some point. Hopefully I can come to some kind of reolution by the end of the month to be able to take advantage of the $500 incentive.
Just to let you all know (if you know anyone that is in the market right now) there is a deal through buyatoyota.com where if you sign up for twitter you can get a $500 debit card from Toyota.
I figured out how to obtain one, because it doesn't work uness you go to the very fine print and click on "Terms & Conditions". Then you have to click on the link toyotasharathon.com. It directs you to your twitter account to "tweet" a pre-populated message from toyota. Once you do that you're directed to a form to fill out. Once that is submitted you get a certificate with a number to enter AFTER you have purchased the Toyota.
I'm not a fan of twitter but I did it anyway just to take advatage of the extra money. It ends tomorrow I believe.
Sorry for the long reply about all of that , but just wanted to put it out there.
Thanks again, and any more opinions and/or advice is greatly appreciated:D
