Damn it I came back in here for a reason and got distracted..

@turbodb what kind of terminals did you need to get for the battery terminal blocks? Like how big of a hole do lugs need to have to attach wires to them? No spec listed online.

Roads are often one of the biggest problems we have on public land.

I’ll just toss that out to the truck group arguing about what’s good and bad for public land .

    GTFO lol :luvya:

But yeah. I mean almost all the roads we enjoy are ex-mining/oil/gas/loggin/exploration roads so...yeah haha

It's fun though to look at things from all angles though. It only helps ones understanding and compassion on such subjects in general.

Yeah, I think it’s important to understand when you said land simply changes hands, it’s never really “undiscovered” nowadays. Whether through money or war.
Ultimately what’s best for it to remain natural would be to shut out all activities for sure. It’s just different to us when it negatively effects how we like the enjoy the outdoors versus those that are anti-offroad. There’s a balance between subduing the land and using it how we please but also understanding the long term consequences of the actions we take and whether or not it’s worth it. What the balance is, I don’t know...

Most of those roads are left open for motorized traffic. Not saying that the activities (logging, mining, oil, etc) that created them isn’t impactful. Some old roads are just built poorly and in the wrong spot but the current use and upkeep of roads is also an issue.

And agreed! I really enjoy the multiple use part of my job. Learning about and understanding what other resources care about can be pretty eye opening. I am a bit more understanding when my favorite road or campsite gets shut down these days.

I’m just stirring the pot. I am 100% onboard with multiple use management. I live next to wilderness and love it, but I also spend a lot of time on roads in other areas.

One of the biggest issues land management agencies deal with and environmentally impactful. For various reasons but tax payer cost to maintain the road, increasing public access (vandalism, littering, destruction of archaeological sites, etc), soil compaction, weed dispersal and the ecological impacts on fish and wildlife. Just to name a few. Not to mention roads the public create by going off trail

And no, I’m not anti-road but I also support wilderness. I am just tossing out that the way this group loves to access public lands is also a huge issue for public lands. Probably more so than worrying about a random monolith being installed.

Interesting, didn't know there was actually a set time.

Yep is this dump pile that's full of glass and can trash or treasure. Would it be considered theft if I took a bottle I fancied?

Sounds like we need a WY bs thread bonfire trip.

One addtional note on roads (specifically FS roads); they're a big cause of erosion and sedimentation. Essentially giant, compacted chutes for stormwater and runoff to move around. Hence why we see runouts built at turns, rocks tossed in low spots, head cuts, etc. As much as we humans try, we can never conquer mother nature.

... But I'll drive em to remote areas whenever I can

Yep, roads contribute A LOT of sediment to our streams in Idaho. The good news is the FS is getting better at building them. Roads are getting improved drainage and new roads are being built away from streams and on more stable surfaces.

The crazy part to me is that even though we have a huge web of roads out here, it’s still pretty easy to find roadless areas (that isn’t designated wilderness). But ya, still going to bomb down some FS roads this weekend .

I like these but damn they are big. I've found others just like them...well, similar. But this one attaches the best to the battery. You think it's possible to just cut off the back 2 bolts? Just aluminum right?

Yeah, you could totally cut it, it's just aluminum. I hear you on the "big," it's the thing I don't love about them. But, I figure the size doesn't actually get in the way of anything (on my truck at least), so I've just put up with it.

I certainly don't need the 6 points anyways. Found some that are similar that are 4 points which look nice other than the way they attach to the battery stud.

Cool, i'll grab them and just cut them. Fit's my way of doing shit anyways haha buy something, massage it to fit my needs...by force haha

I mean, are you out of space somewhere that you have to cut it? I considered that, but then felt like "maybe I'll want more lugs in the future, and would hate to have cut up the $60 part" So I left it. Could have saved 8oz of weight ;)

Nah this if for the DD. So not going crazy but my stock wiring is a bit of a hack from the PO. So I need to replace the alternator wire as it must have broke at one point and has one of those cheap bolt on new battery lug things.

But I also don't have a battery like yours so the terminals likely won't let me fit something that long.

I really just need post for the alternator, starter, fuse box, and SP9100. So should be fine with 4. Surprised they don't make a 4 lug one.
