I wish my other tacoma qualified for the frame replacement. The frame is quite a bit rusty under one of the engine mounts

i am curious too what they woulda worked out for me about 10 years ago when i finally haggled the dealer to check it out after my relatives '98 reg cab was found perforated, they just gave them a check and crushed it, they were 2nd owner from '04

 

There's been a lot of discussion about v6 swaps being cheaper and easier, but I like four cylinders. I also really like how overbuilt the 2tr specifically is. The weak point in the engine is the balance shafts and oil control rings, my engine build includes balance shaft delete and new forged pistons and rods. ARP bolts for all the major points.

Didn't the first gen v6's have headgasket issues?

 

I know the 3.0s in pre tacomas and 4runners had that issues, I don't think the 3.4s had that issue too.

 

Ah that's right. I also can't quite fall in love with the exhaust sound of the v6. I prefer the sound of the higher revving four cylinder too. My last Tacoma was bone stock with 250k on it, and since I paid for the entire tac and speedo, I used them fairly often. I'm excited that this new truck is a manual, last one was automatic.

Do I sand to remove the old finish or just to scuff them up for the polyurethane to bond?

 

If there's no updraft, how do you stay up for long period of time?
