    I don't disagree that the area is sort of similar to the 2nd Gens. It would take a comparison to know how close the internal structure is. Given the overall changes noted, I would guess the internal stuff is somewhat different. It could be either shape or strength for the crash structure.

    Zoomed here on the right side is probably our best current view. It appears to be a welded on nut. My assumption is that they removed that manufacturing step when the canceled the left side handle late in development.

    My only concern here is long term strength under tension for both the clip and the newly installed threaded part. I think a backing washer would be the simplest answer?

    What we need is a plate of .25" steel that we can thread. Just put little ears on it, so it doesn't spin in the bracket...

    No, if the material is thick enough, I'd just tap the hole. If .25" it will be more than enough. Hell, 1/8" would probably work.

    If we were to mock it up and get a drawing of it, I can get a quote from a local laser cutting company in Puyallup (my dad owns it). Just don't expect any discounts... it's a business after all.

    One wrap of electrical or friction tape ought to do it. As long as you don't jab it with the screw while you attempt to start the fastener.
