I spliced some wires on the TPMS module in my Tacoma to get rid of the light. If it was easy like this truck I probably would have purchased sensors for my winter wheels.

My light was on for 4 years. Didn't bother me. I didn't run sensors, and the sensors in the winter set died.

Ford's system is the balls when it comes to TPMS. I went through 3 sets of wheels on my F150, 2 sets on all 3 of my F250s and, so far, only one of them required me to do anything other than just go for a drive. The manual procedure is really simple also, it's just cycling the key a few times and letting a little air out of each tire until it beeps at you. That being said, I still have that stupid light on with the 250 just because I don't want to run 80 PSI unloaded.

Do you have to do anything after a tire rotation, or does it automatically calibrate?

Automatically calibrates. It just requires you to get the truck rolling over I think 15 MPH and it figures it out on it's own.

I thought the procedure you mention here was to make sure they were showing up on the right corners on the display. I always do that when I rotate them, makes me wonder if I have to. I've never actually let air out to see if they are automatically in the right places.

As far as 80 PSI goes, I think ForScan lets you adjust the specified PSI, so if that's the case you could get rid of the light that way.

I don't know what you mean by showing up on the corners of the display. When I rotate tires, I just take the truck for a drive and it figures out the new locations. When I completely swap to a new set of wheels/tires/sensors, usually I just go for a drive and the truck figures out there are new sensors and sorts itself out. With one set of wheels, the truck didn't figure it out on it's own so I had to do a manual procedure. It involved driving the truck (because having the wheels spinning is what turns on the sensors) then parking and cycling the key in a specific order so it goes into learn mode, then you let a little air out of each tire, starting at the driver's front and working clockwise around the truck. The truck will beep at each tire, letting you know it learned that point and beep twice when you're done letting you know the relearn was complete. I only had to do that with one set so far.

Mine show up on the display on each corner of the truck automatically, but I always thought it was just a guess and you had to go through that procedure to be sure it was correct. That's why I've always done it whenever I rotated my tires.

Nope, it really does figure out which corner each tire is at. The only reason I know that, is I keep the super duty at different pressures front and back.

Interesting--I was just looking through the service manual for a 2018 F-150 and it doesn't actually say either way, just outlines the procedure to train them. There is one module that reads the transmissions from them and it's behind the headliner above the back window. I figured there would be a receiving module near each wheel or something, but with just one I wonder how it knows.

Next time I rotate I'll have to let air out of them and see if they show up in the correct places.

It’s good to hear the Ford owners get a win finally, soon Ford might put that winning effort into another part of the truck.:boink:

Midsizes can have drivetrain advantages. Not everyone needs 400+ ft lbs of torque and is willing to sacrifice fuel economy to have it. A 50% power increase isn't worth the truck being a pig on gas.

    Oh, wait...

Just wait til that Powerboost catches on. I never thought i’d actually be excited about a hybrid but that looks promising for the truck market. And, a built in 7 kW generator to boot, yes please! That’d Be the tig o bitties for camping!

570 ft lbs of torque too. My truck is 470 and has loads of extra power already.

Apparently Ford can't market it this way due to some sort of regulations, but theoretically you could use that truck to power your house in an outage. Not everything, but that would run a boiler, freezer, lights, etc. Even a water heater if the rest of the load isn't too bad.

I'm actually more of a fan of the PTO that they're offering with some of the new trucks. That'd be a sweet option. Then you could mount a front snowblower or run a sander with it.

Belt was supposedly replaced right before I bought it used a few years ago so it's got about 50-60k on it now. Once the snow passes this weekend I'll have a look. Could be about time because this summer I was getting some chirping on cold starts but chalked it up to thinking oil just dripped on it during a change since it had stopped after a while so I assumed the oil finally got worked off/burnt off the belt. So thought I needed to check either the belt or pulleys then but a buddy helped me check the pulleys and said "they seem ok" but the belt was slightly worn but not bad enough to warrant immediate change.
