I've seen some first gens with the cb radio installed in place of the ash tray. first off, what brand and model cb radios would some of these be? and does it require any cutting or shaving? im running out of creative places to put things in my cab...

Janster do you have any pics?

DSully72 I have literally been wondering the same thing these past couple of days, I just got my taco and I have a midland and cobra that are both compact and i thought of mounting it there because I took it out anyways but I didn't know if it was doable. Post pics if either of us figure something out.

Yes, it will fit. That's what I have right now. I used to have the Uniden and that also fits. They're the same size.

Yep, I have the very same unit. I had it mounted in the ash try also on my 2000. I took it out, and plan to put it in my 03 soon. Just need the time.

Most guys that I've seen run the Uniden but I think between the Cobra 10 and the Uniden 520, they're about the same. I've had both and I prefer the set up of the Uniden but overall they have the same basic features.

It's UNIDEN, not United. You can adjust your CB to go as far back as you want.

Both the radios are about the same, focus more on your aerial setup and tuning. I run a 4' firestick with tunable tip. So far its been more than good enough for on trail use.
Its mounted on a bed bar in the centre of the cab, this puts more than %60 of the aerial above the roof plane, this is the main reason I went with a 4' instead of a 3' aerial. I think i read this is important on the firestick FAQ.
Also get a 90 degree aerial adaptor for the back of the radio, it will let you push it back in further, and also not put a bend in the aerial wire.

3" Lift via OME 881's, Bilstein 5100's, Dakar OME 3" leaf packs, MBRP custom exhaust, HID headlights, CB, Canopy, aluminum wheels, upgraded sound system, full set of studded snow tires and wheels, auxilary lighting, more to come.
Yeah, pull the tray and track all the way out. I used a dremmel tool to cut out the rear so I could shove the CB in farther and get more of that "JDM Hella Flush" look, haha. I have a UNIDEN 520XL, we use em in all of our dumptrucks and equipment, work great. I did use the mount to get kind of a double security, just so the CB doesn't try to fall out. But, as someone noted above the fit is TIGHT, and I'm pretty sure Toyota engineered that spot to work perfectly for a CB lol.
