Just so we are clear... I am not against you owning or carrying weapons. Just know what you are getting yourself into. You are a nice kid and I would hate to see some bad shit come down on you because of poor choices, even if not of your own volition.
I have a son on the spectrum. Wants to be a bounty hunter.
Classes and training are everything.
Good luck... fire as many guns as you can for as many rounds as you can. Get comfortable, and be prepared.;)

I have an HK VP9. I don't shoot it as much as I'd like to...but I love that gun. Would recommend. Shot my brothers S&W M&P Shield at the range a few times...did not care for it.

That being said... everyone's preference is different. I'd suggest putting as many guns in your hand as possible before purchasing. That's what I did.

Planning to buy the HK VP9SK in case I decide to get a concealed carry permit.

I also agree with this statement because I learned the hard way when some woman opened her passenger door in a narrow alley without paying attention and guillotined my left mirror off; Being an Aspie, I don't react well to being startled (being in a gun range with hearing protection is a totally different thing and I'm fine with it) and the loud sound of the mirror being sheared off just inches from my arm to top if off scared the shit out of me. Combine that with the fact that my truck was damaged and it wasn't going to end well...

I screamed at this woman in front of the crowded bar where I worked, and almost got fired by my boss for it, and my dad and I talked to the other party; Since there was no damage to my truck beyond the mirror being snapped off, and my dad knew I had been less cordial to these people, my dad told the people they wouldn't have to pay for a new mirror to make ammends and bought me one himself. We initially bought an aftermarket mirror for forty bucks, which ended up obviously smaller than the factory right mirror and shook at lot at speeds above 45 MPH. We couldn't return this turd of a mirror for some reason, but my dad still felt bad because the situation was 100% not my fault so he bought me an OEM mirror at the dealer for $126; Just like the cheapo mirror, my neighbor helped me install this one for free...

This is why I only buy Toyota OEM parts in some cases!

Probably the glock 45. 17 frame 19 slide.

As far as everything that has been mentioned thus far, all of them are perfectly viable options. You need to figure out which one you like the best. S&W m2.0 compact, Glock 19, Sig P320 compact are what I would consider the top 3. Between reliability, affordability, concealability, and the ability to customize these firearms and find holsters, sights, Optics, etc. You'll be hard pressed to find a better choice for the price.

Trust me when I say my primary interest in firearms is for recreational purposes. A close friend with lots of firearms experience took me shooting, and I basically "got bug" for lack of a better term. Shooting is really fun! I plan on buying a few guns in the future, and I just think having a carry permit will make things less complicated when transporting firearms in my truck for any reason.

Rest assured that I want to take a classes and become proficient in every aspect of owning and using a weapon. As for your son being on the spectrum and wanting to be a bounty hunter, I feel like that could go either really good or really bad!

A Glock 43x is an extended version of a Glock 43. Basically giving you more capacity and grip.

Being startled easily, I would recommend a full sized full framed for you. Shoot a few filled sized 9mm handguns and see if you’re ok with the recoil. It might be better for you to get more proficient shooting a .22 and working on safety. Safety is paramount and must always be put first. Maybe in your case it would be best to get some practice in with long guns first. Shooting guns is one thing, carrying them is another. Get lots of training and spend lots of time at a range. Perhaps join a gun club and work closely with a range master.

    Here’s a comparison between the Glock 43 and 43x

Here's my opinion (and my opinion only) on shootability vs concealability. For most they are in direct conflict.

Full size are a dream to shoot, but are the least concealable

Metal compacts are a close second.
    Polymer compacts are tolerable.
    Both are fairly concealable.

I find sub-compacts not enjoyable to shoot, just too whippy. But they are highly concealable.

So, the way I figure, I'm 99.99% more likely to only discharge my handguns at a range or course versus a self defense situation. For this reason, I'll choose a full size any day of the week.

I find that full size models barely imprint. Most people's eyes are looking straight ahead most of the time and wouldn't/don't even notice.

I'm by no means a big guy. 5'10"...165.

    Hope this helps.

My HK VP9 was about 600 bucks. I feel like most glocks go for just a little less.

I love my HK, my P320 is a close second.

my vote is a canik TP9 since they are cheap and honestly pretty good quality. Super nice trigger. then you can get yourself a nice AR lower for a future AR build. AR builds are going to get a bit dicey in the next few years.
