    No guard to boot!

One of the funniest moment I’ve had in a public restroom was at Daytona International Speedway, they had those communal urinals, I said “damn, waters cold!!!” And without missing a beat, the guy adjacent to me said, “and deep too!!” Had the whole men’s room laughing!

I'd say several reasons. First, to remove the tire from the rim without splitting the rim would take equipment (scale, configuration, adapters, etc) most people don't have access too. To pay someone with that equipment would probably eat up the profit someone was looking to get from scrapping them. So it pretty much leaves a person splitting the rim with the tire in place.

They weigh over 300 pounds so at any kind of shop, they'll likely have to put numerous people on the task, so $$$. And, with the 36 ply sidewalls, the halves don't want to come out because there is no "give" when you try to break the bead loose.

Also, unless they do risk using a torch on Magnesium, they are left dealing with some really high torque levels, no nut expansion, and corrosion. In hindsight, i have a small carbon arc torch I could have used, but honestly, that didn't occur to me at the time. I was just thinking worst case of the rim catching fire.

After we worked out the method, the guy who owns them and his son did the other three. He said they were looking at the nuts and noticed some "flat spots" inside, in the threads. He took one to a local nut/bolt supply store and they told him those are locking features and unless those nuts are heated, they won't come off. I guess at aircraft maint facilities, they heat them in some safe manner(electrically?), and they know more about the alloy of the wheels and just how/how much heat can be applied without danger of fire.

The other thing is when people run them for sale and find out very few people want the tires, and if they do they want them whole, they realize only the rims are of value. So, they probably cut the tires off in some manner and just scrap the rims.

Electrical is roughed in, got the A/C so I could size the opening, and started more siding. Had to insulate the ceiling over the porch so that was a segway from the main goal, but had to be done.
Yesterday was consumed with exterior holiday decorating, so not much to report for yesterday.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday!
