Suspension replace on 2007 SR5 Tacoma

Just had my suspension replaced this last weekend. I will take some pics in the next couple of days and post them.

If you have the 3_leaf pack suspension it is the older springs.

The dealer replaced the :

• Front Shocks
• Rear Shocks
• R/L Rear Leaf Spring Packs
• UBolts

All the shocks are now TRD Bilsteins and the rear leaf springs are now 4 leafs.
They replaced the whole spring pack and didn't just add a 4th leaf to the existing pack.

I love the ride. According to my dealer this would cost $1800 if you had to pay for it .

 

Hang in there.

The dealer had told me at least two weeks and it ended up being 10 days.

Can't believe all this was installed by Toyota for free.
Cool that Toyota is willing to step up to the plate to take care of this.
Says a lot about the company.

 

I believe it is because you already have the TRD and better shocks then my SR5 did.

 

hows the ride? and does it sit a little taller than before

 

I did measure it and it looks like it sits about 1 inch taller. Will have to double check that.

It rides nicer. Firm but not too harsh.

TOYOTA PAYS FOR IT!!!

WOW! Those parts can't get in fast enough!!! I called them yesterday, and we are waiting on the new springs to come in. Hopefully tomorrow I will get all of it done. I hope it all goes well. I can't wait to see what the ride is like!

On a side note: my wife is having trouble getting into my truck as it is. I may have to go ahead and get step bars before I go with any other mods. That is when I have money, you know - in 2009.

 

Forget the step bars, just throw a step ladder in the bed and she can pull it out and use it whenever she is riding

 

I've only had my Taco for 11 days and can't honestly say I have a complaint, but then again I haven't loaded it down yet. Is there going to be a short window of opportunity for this? I'm trying to judge whether to have this done soon, or if it's safe to wait to reach a few thousand miles.

 

My guess is that Toyota is going to find a package that replaces the current SR5 setup that is less expensive than the Bilsteins for the TRD. When they do that, the TRD suspension will no longer be available for the SR5s. So in that respect, my guess is that this offer for the SR5s will not last very long. That is why I am jumping on this.

However, on the TRDs, I think the upgraded rear leaf springs will be a permanent TSB. They don't cost as much as a full suspension upgrade, and Toyota isn't going to put that much money into researching something that isn't costing them much at all. Besides, not everyone is doing this - only those of us that complain.

I am gonna have to go with ndcouch on this one. My better half is 5'3" and manages to hold her own getting in and our of the truck, my mother however, requires me to get the tool box out of the bed, so she can step up on that and get in. Better solution IMHO than step bars which I personally think look awfull. However, I guess that depends on how much she rides in the truck with you. I think before you said that she prefers to not ride in the truck, so if that's the case I certainly wouldn't add step bars for her

 

I know it is pretty cool. Now I am thinking tires ?!

 

I will say this about the step bars, i'm not a huge fan but i would have to put them on the new Tundra if i had one. My buddy got one recently and that thing is enormous. I'm 6ft even. So i'm not really tall but i'm not short by any means and i have to do a little "hop" to get into the rear seat. I cant just put my but in the seat and slide in like i can in my truck, i litterally have to jump off the ground to get in. i cant imagine what my 5.5ft gf would do... she'd have to get a running start. He has the Crewmax and there is more room in the back seat than ina freaking limo. I dont want one or need one but that is definately one badass truck.

 

Well i took my truck and picked it and the tech and advisor said that they could not feel or hear anything. I told them that it happens when going over speed bumps or dips. They said they test drove it could not feel or hear it. So i gave them the tsb number and they said the my vin does not apply for tsb either. So got my truck got a call from so called asst manager in service and he stated that it could be my lift that is making my truck bottom out or the way the lift was put on messed up the leafs. I told him that the leafs where not touched since i has a shop install blocks in the back. His next excuse is the tsb is only for trd trucks. I asked him what kind of truck were you looking at. he says, not a trd. I told him it was 07 tacoma trd off road. He states back to the lift causing the problem. I have a question who has had the tsb done with a lift on the truck??

 

I am getting my TSB done through North Park Toyota in Boerne. They are telling me that the warehouse in Houston won't have the parts (waiting on the rear springs!) until mid-November.

They have the shocks and the rotors in stock, but the service guy doesn't want to put any of it on until they can do it all at once. He says that way he can give me a loaner car for the day. We'll see.

Right now I am just frustrated that it is taking so long. I ordered those parts on 9/16!!!
