    Hi,

I've recently been going down the tacoma world rabbit hole and its gotten me more interested in cleaning up the look of my truck. For me, I'd love to get it back to looking brand new. One thing that specifically eeks me is that I'm missing all my tailgate decals.

I'd like to put on the correct ones that were once on the truck. I used toyoDIY to identify my black '06 access cab as a "base type." Does this mean it is simply an SR? Not an SR5? I've attached a picture of a taco (NOT mine) that has 4 lines of decals (Toyota, tacoma, prerunner, v6 sr5), which of these would be "historically accurate" to put on my truck? I know that I don't have the model pictured because I do NOT have a chrome bumper or grille (I have a black grille and bumpers).

Bonus question: Can I put an OEM chrome rear bumper and grille on my truck (I love the look of the chrome with black)? I assume these parts are interchangeable but just double checking!

    THANKS!

Yes it’s dead easy to swap to a chrome grille and bumper from an SR5 or TRD, check the classifieds section for your local area most folks want to get rid of their chrome so it should be easy to find for a reasonable price.

If the above picture is your truck then it’s probably an SR5, just not a TRD, the TRD’s came with the chrome.

Your’s is also an 06-08 given the tail lights so you have an earlier truck and might not have some of the things later trucks got.

There’s three “mini generations” within the 2nd gen, 05-08 09-11 (With 11 getting a special grille for that year alone) and 12-15. Each got some upgrades generally safety or comfort related.

A picture or two of your truck would help.

Welcome to TW by the way and thanks for not starting with “What size tires can I run?”

Thanks! Yeah honestly I've just been lurking for over a year not wanting to post after seeing people getting roasted for asking stupid questions. Here are the only two pictures of my truck I have at the moment. I'll take more tomorrow when its light out!

Yeah given the wheels and bumpers looks like a straight up SR, do you have back seats and seatbelts?

I do indeed have seatbelts in the back seat. Not that they are ever used, it's super uncomfortable back there.

Yeah but that means it's a SR and not a full on base. The base ones had the "utility" package, no rear seats so it's not the lowest trim level.

Even still the lowest trim is still a Tacoma and Tacoma's are great trucks.

Don't worry about being roasted for asking a question. Who cares if you annoy someone by trying to find out something that you don't know? If they get that annoyed because you had the guts to ask, just ignore them.
Most people here will try to help you if they can.

    Welcome and good luck.

Nice Tacoma by the way

Oh yeah I have no qualms about which one I have, it's an amazing truck and my prized possession. I look forward to upgrading it and keeping it running as long as possible (my new blisteins are in the mail!). I just want to get the tailgate decals correct, I know it seems strange but I don't want to stick "SR5" on there if its not an SR5. It seems like the "historically accurate" thing to do would be just "TOYOTA" and "TACOMA" on the left of the tailgate. I'm on cars.com looking through pictures to see if the SR's get the v6 label or not...

For your truck I'd assume it would be the same as mine, just Toyota and Tacoma below that on the left side.

Unfortunately, no. If you do it would be on the right, same level as Tacoma on the left. Essentially where the SR5 badge is on the picture.

If you have a 4x4 base V6 it should look like this

YES! THANKS, I have no idea why it was so hard for me to find a picture!

I know I can find the decals on eBay, can anyone direct me towards a threads for applying them in the right spot?

I have all the badges off my 2010 TRD Off-Road V6 4x4 SR5 that I debadged if you want them cheap.

Who cares if you put higher trim badges on? Especially if you’re upgrading the truck to meet or exceed what the “higher trims” came with stock?

The badges are just bragging rights anyway and if you are making it an SR5 I think that speaks at higher volumes than someone who just paid too much for it outright.

Only reason I got a TRD Off-Road was for the rear locker as I am now looking at re-gearing and considering ARB’s front and rear there was really no point in getting the off-road as nearly everything that made the Off-road an Off-road has now been modified disabled or replaced and what’s left I rarely rarely use. (A-TRAC comes to mind.)

Don't know of a specific thread, all I've seen are about removing them, not putting them on. Find a friend with a Tacoma and take measurements I guess, or just be sneaky in a parking lot? I'd help you out but I took mine off a long time ago :p. Maybe someone else here can help you out

I don't think your thinking is wrong at all -- it's more a personal thing thats probably tied up with me having some mild OCD lol. And it's not even logical because I want to change the grille and rear bumper over to chrome ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All that being said I would definitely buy those badges from you!
