Considering a swap next spring from 2017 tacoma to Mazda 3 manual or a Honda Civic hatchback manual.

Haven’t been needing the bed as of this year as much as I previously did and am really itching to get back into a manual transmission. The Tacoma has been fun. I’ve driven a manual Tacoma and I can say with certainty that I don’t want a manual Tacoma either.

Am I crazy, or just another kid with a kid that’s growing up and becoming practical adult ??

I had a buddy go from a 2015 tacoma to a manual WRX back to a 2019 tacoma.

It's hard to check all the boxes on a singular daily driver. But if you want more excitement on a daily drive, a manual small car is always the way to go.

I like the mazda's right now. Many are japanese made and the fuel economy is hard to beat.

The Mazda 3 just looks like a fun, good looking car to me, and I’m almost sold on it.

From my house to work is a decently large uphill climb that has gotten a little irritating having to sit in 3rd to stay at 70mph.

Ugh. Hard NO on crappy Hondas.

Civic is new gen for next year, do they even have a manual any more?

I have two friends with CX3's right now, they feel super underpowered to me, but they are fun in the city to drive. Just make sure to get the bigger motor if you do go that route.

Other than the civic hatchback, they might have a small car that has a manual but I wouldn’t consider it. I think it’s the Honda Fit if I’m not mistaken. But yes, I’m leaning towards the Mazda 3

I was under the impression that the Mazda 3 was the only manual transmission model they offer?

Yes but I'm just referring to the weak 2.0 they have.

I thought they cancelled the Fit, and yes the Civic still has MT.

Sorry, you are correct. It’s the Type R that has a manual as well.

Depending on trade in value I might decide to rip off the extras and sell them separately so it’ll just be a stock Tacoma. I hope someone will enjoy it as much I have.

Growing up and becoming a practical adult but getting a manual sports car? I am confused by this post!

I'm a huge fan of the older Mazda 3 (my wife owns a 2009 manual hatchback). The new Mazda 3 has been neutered and made more upscale. The 2020 Civic Type R is a blast to drive, but I'm old, so the looks turn me off.
My sister's 2018 WRX STI is also fun to drive, especially in the snow. It lacks the feedback of the Mazda 3, but the AWD gives you a bit more confidence to push it hard.

I don’t think I’d consider a 2.5 liter turning sub 200 hp a “sports car,” but I get what you mean. The growing up part of my post was a joke.

I’ll admit that the slight upgrade in the luxury aspect to the Mazda 3 has been appealing to me

My wife drives a 2015 mazda3 hatchback and it's an excellent car for an econobox that is also fun to drive down a windy road. We are planning on upgrading to the 2021 mazda3 hatchback awd turbo in a few years but I don't know if they'll offer it in a manual. They are trying to compete with entry level german luxury cars not honda civics with wings.
