Title says it. Fixing to do 30K tune-up. Just to be completely sure, I dont need to add LSD fluid?

TRDs do have limited slip, so yes, you will need LSD additive (not lysergic acid diethylamide, the original LSD).

Thats what I thought. For the longest time I believed it had LSD, but what I thought was the LSD was actually being accomplished by the VSC using braking correct?

Right!! But since its the brakes I dont need LSD additive correct? There is A LOT of conflicting info on this because of the change in the 09+ models. Thanks for the help!

Toyota dealer still use the additive in ALSD vehicles.

Why would they do that? Its an open diff, and uses the brakes to modulate power to the wheels that slip...

    x2.

I bet they meant to say they're using fluid with an additive in it. I've heard that all the gear oils have the additive in them, but it's just not enough for our mechanical LSDs...thus the need for an additional tube of additive. So it was probably a misstatement/misunderstanding where ever that info came from.

Either way, TRD OR has never (at least for a Gen 2) had a mechanical LSD!

All the ones I have contacted said they DONT have the addative in them, but the "LS" on the bottle means "Safe for use in limited slip differentials".

I work at a toyota dealer. As I read this 3 of the technicians were walking by my desk so I asked them.

We use valvoline, which "includes" the additive, but they still put it in just to be safe. All LSD, mechanical and auto.

They are misinformed. The Valvoline doesnt have it in the oil. It IS Safe for use in LS diffs.

Ah, that explains it then. There are a lot of people that don't use the additive because the bottles state just what you said and then they have problems. Now I too know why. Thanks.
