Tacomabeast exclusive 05-11 projector headlight

Since this thread doesn't seem to be blindly dogging offbrand headlights like most do, anyone tried these?

I saw these on ebay ($100 cheaper than the Amazon link) and im interested in doing a BLHM and retrofitting a morimoto H1 projector in them. But I've never seen them taken apart yet.

 

I saw those too .... thinking of getting them but there are so few reviews available. Its a toss up between those and these.

the Autosaver has an H7 bulb and the other has an H1 bulb ..... oh just found out the H7 bulbs are $16 at walmart

 

I recently found out that tacomabeast has a few more options for headlights now. But GOD DAMN. $1000 for headlights?!

Just wanted to share my experience with the Tacomabeast "Spyder" headlights on my 2011 Tacoma. Bought them last year during their Christmas sale and have had them for about a year or so. Since then I've had one of the low beams blow out. Not a big deal, went to Autozone and got a Sylvania H1 replacement. The Sylvania's are made in Germany and just by looking it looks like the Spyder ones are made in China. They didn't seem of good quality at all. About 2 weeks later I noticed that both of my headlights had condensation in them. Emailed Tacomabeast since I was within my 1 year warranty period and they said they could issue an RMA with Spyder. The only problem is that they wanted me to send the headlights first and then they would send a replacement. Since this is my DD and I no longer have my stock OEM headlights this wasn't a viable option. I would be out of headlights and a legal vehicle for 2-4 weeks that it takes to issue an RMA replacement. Emailed them again asking for other solutions and since then I've heard crickets. Have tried following up with them another 2-3 times and they have not acknowledged or responded to my emails.

The Tacomabeast headlights look great but are low quality. I shouldn't have expected much for a $300 headlight but I'm more disappointed in the customer service and was at least hoping they'd last for more than a year before showing signs of failure. The condensation isn't bad but it'll only get worse and I was hoping it could be fixed within warranty but doesn't look like that is a possibility. I haven't been able to find a pair of used headlights locally to use in the meantime either. So I'll just ride with these until it gets unusable and then likely go back to OEM.

 

From what I have seen over the year(s) Tacomabeast sells garbage at a high price because of their name. I see nothing but OEM style with retrofit being the way to go. TYC I think is a better brand as well when it comes to replacing headlights on these

 

lets not forget that Tacomabeast guy carved his name into some million year old rocks.. This is why I will never support them. I never watch their videos either.

Yeah that was a messed up situation... I watch their videos a little bit but honestly even despite the carving, the main guy is annoying haha

 

All they do is drop ship chinese products at insane mark ups. They reach out to the instalanders to promote their crap. The average person wouldn't know any better as they figured its a one stop shop for truck gear. Hopefully potential buyers can do a bit of research and use their hard earned money elsewhere.

How's the light output? Is it as terrible as I'm expecting? (please say no, please say no, please say no)

 

NOOOOOOOO ...... Light out put is great!! Its a super upgrade compared to the OEM

Only because most aftermarket headlights that are under $1000 seem to have bad light output

The morimotos, retrofits in oem housings, etc.

 

The cosmetic appearance is subjective. But it appeals to me so I bought them with plans to retrofit. The beam cutoff is atrocious on my passenger housing but acceptable on the driver side. I added some osram nightbreaker laser bulbs in an attempt to temporarily improve the lighting before I remove the headlights to retrofit hid projector housings, etc.

The output on these vitamotor housings are comparable to a set of well used glazed over stock housings using normal wattage bulbs/wiring.

A true led/hid retrofit will blow these away. (I had @ambiguous built 4.5k hid retros)

@crashnburn80 h4 halogen upgrade will blow these away too.

They havent leaked/puddled water in the mild rain that CA has been getting. But they fog over internally which means there has to be a gap/leak or not enough breathers.

 

Oh I'm sure a retrofit would be far better. Problem is, headlights just aren't worth that amount of money to me. Not to say it isn't worth it. Just not for me.

 

Understood and totally onboard with that. My eyesight (night vision) is getting worse as I age so automotive lighting has become more of a concern for me.

 

The set I got must have been made on a Tuesday or something. Cut off is pretty good for the crappy stock projectors, light output is *decent* (not as good as a retrofit or the Ultimate H4 but comparable to stock) after adding the Osram Lazers, and mine have yet to leak/fog over in the 14mo they've been on the truck.
