Wanted to post my experience of the 255/85 Cooper maxx. They are awesome tires but are wearing really oddly. I need to probably replace them and I have only put 36k on them so far.

I wish I wasn’t an idiot and picked up 17 inch ray10 instead of 16. I could get wildpeaks and call it a day if I had 17 in wheels.

What would you guys do if you had a full size brand new 255/85 maxx? Would you get wildpeaks in 265/75 and sell the spare or replace it with more 255/85 maxx?

So initially I was looking to powdercoat my stock TRD or rims and go with 255/85/16s but I've come across some rims locally that would be cheaper than powdercoating. They're close, but different enough that it may not work. They're 16x8 +30mm offset. Would I need to use spacers for that?

If you care about fuel economy and acceleration, the heavier tires will affect both negatively by at least 10%.

It’s probably my alignment but I have significant differences in wear between tires. I’ll get some pics today for you all.

Balanced great, ride great. Super smooth and quiet on a quick test run around the neighborhood tonight after installing them. I didn't see much info on these tires before purchasing them. I'm looking forward to some snowy days :D

Do you have any pictures? Does your truck handle any different than when you had stock?

Pulled the AT IIIs off my Taco to test them on the new stock T4R, going to take a little trimming but should fit nicely.

I'm thinking about going to 255/85R16 MTs this spring. I have a dedicated set of studded winter wheels/tires (1st gen Tundra wheels with 265/70/R17 Cooper Discoverer M+S) that I run all winter, the 255s would be for spring-fall and get put on my TRD beadlock wheels.

Trying to decide between the Falken Wildpeak MT01, the Maxxis MT-762 Bighorn, maybe the Mastercraft Courser CXT. I can't find much info on the Mastercrafts but I like that they are made in the USA :oldglory:

Any feedback on these tires (or other MT suggestions) welcomed.

    It is just money...

I'm running a set of BFG KM3s and between a 20 hour round-trip road-trip to Colorado, a bunch of miles off-road in sand/rocks/gravel, and living with them daily for the last three months, I have to say I'm really happy with them compared to other MTs I've driven (not on my Tacoma). My only fear is snow because they lack siping, but if you're running snows you're off that hook.

I guess I forgot to show off here-picked up some KM3's in 255/85r16. Put them on some 2020 OR factory take offs. No rubbing at all in front, but I now have caught the right rear fender flair at full flex and need to do some heating or grinding. Worried about the ice coming soon; maybe should have sipped them but I hear that voids the warranty. Ride great. look great and no discernable losses in handling or mpg. Loving it!20201002_173451 (3).jpg 20201002_173431 (12).jpg [

Still waiting on snow here in Colorado. The drought has been horrible.

I made that rack-high enough for a canoe to go on top and clear the roof... Mounts to the bed rail system. 2' exhaust tubing, some bending and mitering. Cost $80 for materials and $250 to get powder coated.

I believe the factory OR wheel is 25 offset and 5 back spacing. I put 3rd gen struts and UCA's, plus a 3/4 spacer for 2 1/5" up front. HS AAL in the rear-probably 3" gain with that change.

Front has probably about 2" of lift with about 3" in rear unloaded. Hooked to a trailer or loaded it levels out.
    Stock gearing A/T.
    Not tuned.

No rubbing anywhere at any articulation. I did remove my flaps as they rubbed on the 265's. I almost think they'd fit with the 255's and if I get bored I will try it and find out.

I towed about 225Mi. and got about the lowest MPG I have ever gotten, 11.2, but not the lowest. I used to get somewhere between 11 MPg and 12.5 towing same setup on old tires. S4 typically with the the occasional S5 thrown in when applicable. S4 now reads within a few RPM of where S5 was on my 265/70-17 wildpeaks. Truck will hit S3 on hills now where it typically didn't before, that sucks, but it shifts back to S4 fairly easily.

MPG around town I do not know yet as I haven't driven enough to check, but I think it will be close to the 265's, within an MPG or so based on my experience towing.

I did not notice any difference in towing feel between the E's and SL tires at the weight I pulled.

Notice a slight weight penalty on take off, but nothing to cry about, turbo lag like would be the best way to describe it as when it hits 3500 RPM the shift is very apparent. I drive fairly conservatively.

Going from an SL to an E is sort of a mixed bag, some bumps are more muted, while hard jars are more amplified. Not a big deal, but hard to explain how they can be softer and harder at the same time.

You do have to drive the truck now as it seems to want to do it's own thing if you let it, the 265's were more carlike for sure. I have not chalked the tires, so my PSI may need adjusted still to help with this. The much taller tread of the Maxx's undoubtedly contribute to this as well though. The Maxx's do throw rocks, which is to be expected.

I'm just trying to include as much info as possible here for anyone else searching for info on this swap.

I'm running the 235 duratracs. They've been fine, good in mud, loose snow, bad on ice and packed snow, good in sand. Loud now that they're wearing out.
Thinking of switching to wildpeaks or AT3s in 265/75/16s honestly, just want to try something new. Will probably go with SL loads to save weight
