....what about the labor cost...that's what I'm worried about costing so much.

Also, I sent a message to Bud Built...I'm hoping they either make sliders and IFS skid for KDSS models, if not I've offered my GX as a loner to prototype them. All the sliders I've seen on the market are complete junk in the way they mount. I don't trust those u-bolts that most use.

Although I can't imagine it would be that hard to do it yourself. Toyotas are basically giant lego kits. Everything just snaps together.

If I break my super rare sport trim pieces, I don't want to be liable for them. Would rather pay someone else, as dash swaps are a pain in the ass.

    "super rare"

Dude, it's a GX, not a priceless Ferrari. Aren't you going to take it offroading and get it scratched up anyways? The day I first drove it home on the test drive, I have the center console apart wondering why it had an aftermarket microphone. To see what was behind the radio. Just watched a youtube video to see how to take it apart. Just be a little extra cautious with the wood trim. But even that is pretty robust.

Probably irreplaceable sport pieces unless used. The pieces to the side of the radio are probably the most temperamental/brittle/junk things I’ve ever had the displeasure of repeatedly removing from the dash. Finally busted the top clip piece on my right hand piece. Going to replace with the silver prado versions and vinyl wrap those gloss black to match all my other stuff.

Otherwise the dash removal probably isn’t bad, just time consuming.

All this stuff has to be removed as well. It's not a simple unbolt and bolt back in affair. I've done a dash swap in a Honda before, and it was a chore. I'd gladly pay someone $450 in labor to do it correctly and not break shit.

Whole center stack comes out in like 10 minutes. The passenger side glove box and trim comes out in 5 minutes. Left hand dash pieces may take the most time cause you have to remove the lower trim panel and unplug your switches then carefully take the gauges out. It’s probably a couple hour job to do it right for someone who has taken a dash apart before. Most of the plastics aside from the wood trim are pretty forgiving. Center console mating to the dash needs to come off partially too. The rest is finally unbolting the dash itself from the center support, etc.

That being said it’s still a pain in the ass. My ugly brown cracked dash tho is enough to make me want to do it. It’s one of the last stock things about the GX that bothers me. Like why couldn’t the po be bothered to go get it taken care of.

I may just get a suede dash cover and be done with it. It doesn't really bother me that much, mine isn't as bad as some I've seen.

Yeah my cracks arent terribly bad but I get a lot of the white haze buildup and the material starts to feel sticky. Usually a 303 treatment helps significantly for a month or so.

I've often wondered how much it would be to take a dash to an upholstery shop and have them cover it in leather or a leather like material.

I thought about doing that to the 4Runner. But obviously not now.

That’s a really solid price. To be right around 1k at the dealer I’d probably do that.

There was a post over on t4r of a 4th gen owner who took out the dash, removed the peeling stock vinyl material and then recovered the whole thing with new dash vinyl. Came out really nice. My only concern at that point is for the passenger airbag. Like in my head I know it should bust through that wimpy layer of vinyl and work as it was designed but I always get second thoughts. With the upholstered stuff you could always get it sewn to allow deployment.

I too wonder how much that would cost. Probably close enough to just buy one of the $590 dashes from the lower cost dealers.

IF I were to purchase at your dealer, would you get credit for it?
