TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

That's what I was thinking. I just took it out before installing the supercharger, so I have no comparison with it. Was going to play around and which way suits my style of driving better.

ya that shouldn’t be an issue. I expect more with a 2.5. you have anything else installed work the S/C?

 

Hey, any of you boys with a URD tcai have problems with the install due to the s/c intercooler? With the intercooler being in front of the radiator I figure it would probably bump the cone filter out towards the grill more......

 

Mike rubbed the intercooler so I moved it to here prior to engine cage and moving it again.

Mine was going to rub with the URD bracketing and so i made a bracket out of aluminum flat bar to push it forward more. It is in the stock URD TCAI location now without issue. I can get a pic later of my hacked together bracket if you're interested. Very basic design, i think i even kept the URD mounting points, just made an extension

 

Yeah please if you don’t mind. Did you have to make extensions for the Maf or did it come with a premade extension?

 

Flip the bracket, widen the hole ever so slightly so the bolt goes through the smaller hole and it'll push you out enough to not cause issues. I ran mine like that for a very long time prior to changing it then ultimately selling it.

 

It comes with a pre-made extension yes. I did have to cut some plastic out of the inside of the grille to make it work - I also have the metal shield for the filter installed.

I'm interested in what you come up with @BassAckwards because mine has been rubbing on the intercooler since I installed it. Lucky so far I haven't gotten a leak.

Also, you won't get a leak. The intercooler fins do not contain coolant and are quite thick. The brass tubes within do, so you can rub off fins all day long, but if you rub through the tubes THEN you will be in trouble.

Why did you sell yours?

I was thinking about that shield too. I’m more worried about rain/snow. Do you have a filter cover on it too? I saw on URD’s site it says it’s been rigorously tested in those conditions but I’ve been through that shit before so you don’t know what to believe.

 

I basically agree with URD's assessment that no shield wouldn't be a problem for rain/snow. I actually put it on to project against bugs and rocks. I don't have a filter cover but probably should because the upper portion of the filter tends to collect debris over time.

 

Nice. I’ll probably now spring for this then. You see harsher winters then me (and mine aren’t so pleasant) so your opinion weighs heavy.

Rain and snow is not a problem with that intake. If it really worries you then you can take a small drill bit to the intake right before the MAF and drill a small hole at the bottom of the tube for "drainage" purposes. I ran mine in straight up pouring rainstorms and even in the snow and not one issue ever. You'll be fine.

You would have to ingest a lot of water all at once for the engine to hydrolock.

 

Lol not really worried about hydrolocking the motor. Just wanna make sure I don’t get moisture from rain/snow affecting the maf. Sounds like I’ll be good though.

 

@JuanitoBunito I follow a guy on Instagram who has a turbo 1st gen (it's awesome) and his filter is configured similarly to the URD one. He hydrolocked his motor by going through a MASSIVE puddle. It was MASSIVE, but the filter was no way near submerged. So unless you're doing that, it will be fine.
