I get ya, and that makes sense. Yeah try it out, doesn’t hurt. Some trial and error. And for your case you might not even need a full OME, just get a new leaf pack. All pro? It’s like $500 and 3” of lift but with some constant weight In the back
I hear it settles. You can also pull out leaves

Another picture of the stock springs...so many options, too many lol. This truck is pretty much a garage queen as some friends tease me. I use it mostly for longer trips and the Mule to haul camping gear when going on Jeep Jamboree with my other toy.20201207_112334.jpg

I never updated profile but this one is 2017 and odometer showing 19,600 miles. Sport with manual transmission, stereo upgrade, and TRD grill

I did NOT leave the overload spring. Glad I didn't, would have put the rear up way too high for me and works great without it.

I'm curious what you end up doing. I'm in the same boat as my rear end needs some help...

What do you mean by your rear ended needing some help? Are you seeking height? Cushion? The thread revolves around the Icon a AAL 1.5” add a leaf loft kit. It looks like Most everyone who added this experienced substantial improvements to the Rear suspension. Some have left the overload leaf on for additional height and or towing support. Others have removed it. I guess the real
Question is what do you seek to achieve?

With the topper, rack and any amount of gear, the rear end is sagging. I'm looking for 2-3" of lift to restore some rake without a jarring ride and squeaking. (Is that even possible?)
I went with a single AAL years ago on my 93, and was too stiff.
I realize this thread is about Icon AAL. Following to see what folks are doing with the overload, bump stops, etc.

I’m no expert on packing major amounts of gear but I can share what I’m finding. Adding Duro bumps or wheelers Supsrbumps might lessen the harsh bottomed out blows. Leaving the overload spring on for those carrying heavier loads might improve things... as well as add some height. Lift Blocks are not your friend in terms of cushy rides. I can attest to that one. Maybe you need to step up your leaf package? One note to look deeper into is the full suspension package at Dobinsons. It’s the only three stage adjustable shock system affordable, without getting into a serious $5-6k type set up. @Crikeymike at Exit Off-road in JAX is super knowledgeable and I believe used to work for Dobinsons. https://www.dobinsonsdirect.com/

I just placed the order for the Icon progressive add a leaf and figured since the shocks have to come out for install, I ordered Bilstein 5100's . Will update when its finished.

Wife's with complete OME suspension. Hindsight I would have went with lighter springs. She wouldn't let me put a box in there that every handy person should carry lol (just opinion of course)20201207_163509.jpg

Maybe the leafs will help support the rear with the 5100’s. I had stock leafs and 5100 on my 2011 Taco and it would bottom out on speed bumps in the street. I actually thought of getting the 5160’s but they’re out of stock for months. Now I’ve discovered Dobinsons and I’m trying to get into therapy for this new obsession before I end up buying them.

Yeah it says 1.5" add a leaf, I will be happy if it sits the same height now after I put my box back in there along with the few things I keep in it. I'd estimate the box with stuff is 150lbs. If it sits a little higher then that's even better. And I'm certain that I won't feel that harshness like when the factory set up is bouncing off the overload. Sooo I think..

so here’s a photo of mine as it sits (although this is a slight incline). It’s barely off of the overload. Less than an inch of space (this is the front - close towards the cab - the side towards the bumper has more room, maybe double what’s seen here). EACBFF77-F44E-4329-AA1B-3DB1331490F4.jpg

So it may not hurt to leave the overload in. But how much weight do you guess is added? Over empty I mean. I actually called Icon today and they were very cool/helpful. The person who answered the call put me on hold after asking me about weight I'll have with camper and extras. The returned to say the springs alone would at 2.25" minus 1.75" with total 300lbs my guess with shell and a few things I'd like to keep in there. Does that sound correct though...2.25" when this progressive add a leaf is marketed as 1.5" ??

How much weight is added on my truck? Or how much weight does it take to cause me to hit the overload? Which are you asking?

also sorry, it wasn’t clear in your message. The springs alone with no weight sit at 2.25” of lift? But with all your weight (300lbs) go down to 1.75”?

I mean, if you have absolutely Nothing in your bed and not a terribly sagging leaf peach I can see if it gives you 2” as soon as you slap it on. If they actually did a calculation that’s what it is. Idk

Yeah I was curious of approximate weight you have when that picture taken. The person I spoke with told me a stock truck nothing on it the AAL would add 2.25" but that my estimated 300 lbs would lower that by 1.75" I just wondered if that sounded correct?
