It only occurs at a little higher in throttle angle (IE getting on the freeway), and will hang even when backed off. Im guessing around 40-50deg of throttle blade angle based on some logs where im getting on the freeway

If you are just cruising around town (under 55) with no slightly faster than normal taking off then its fine. But getting on the freeway under moderate acceleration it will go into 4th lock up and wont get into 5th at all unless you force it with the shifter D4D pattern. It also has no problem with WOT runs to highway speeds (75mph) then letting off it will go right into 5th lockup.

I went back to essentially v12 4th n 5th gear shifts for my test case v15 and still had the same hangs, hence why im thinking its something with the optimum torque table as thats whats drastically changed between days of v12 and current.

    Good info!

I'm working on putting something together to better illustrate my idea.. But this is a hint/teaser.

    Idea#1.jpg

Until I can get my 'idea' sorted and a more efficient means of implementation, try this for me. (This is for anyone who has the shift-hang issues)

Leave everything else alone and copy/paste the stock Optimum Engine Torque table back to stock values while running v14 trans tune. If it cures the issue, I can almost guarantee what I'm working on will cure the hang.

Will do. If i get a highway drive in this evening ill make sure to capture a 4th gear hang and note throttle angle that it occurs at.

Does yours hang at ~3000rpm at 70mph? Thats what Ive noticed is accelerate up to ~70mph and be around 3k rpm and it wants to just sit there for a bit. But I dont bother doing the D-4-D shift and instead just let off the accelerate for a second and then get back on it and it will shift. On V14. Its still way better than V13 so stopped caring as V13 never wanted to shift lol

yup 70ish. I can try to back off on the throttle and sometimes get it to shift, but thats rare.

Hmm wonder if it is something on your engine tune vs just @JustDSM s too. I'll usually end up at 70-75 and just let off long enough it drops like 3 or 4 mph and apply accel and it'll shift.

I can probably grab some logs if you think itll help. Thankfully I have a 70mph highway that doesn't get much traffic

Does anybody know if the supercharged map from toyota has different trans tuning and if so would it be a good fit for an n/a setup? Just curious if that would be a good starting point for some trans tuning. @nd4spdbh

Was running v13, on 14 now. Times it doesn't want to drop into 5th seem about the same between revisions. Doing the d4d dance has become second nature, but I think I only have to do it the first time it goes from 4th to 5th. After that I feel like it will go into 5th when it should.

Have you noticed the same thing?

Yup its really only on the first instance of running up from slower speeds to higher speeds (like going from side streets to the freeway). But once you did the d4d dance once it will go along for some time till speed drops significantly.

@JustDSM Check your PM sent ya some logs with the 4th gear hang I had tonight!

This is the head scratching part for me and makes me think we're up against some part of the trans logic that isn't defined in hp tuners yet. You and Justin are smarter than I am though so maybe that behavior makes sense if you have a better understanding of how the shift point maps are getting biased by other tables.

It's 100% the trans AI as we don't have access to tune that (probably part of the vsc). But it doesn't like changes we have made... Buuuut we might be able to work around that.

Figure out where you are at during this time on your 3D Trans torque map and raise the values.

Tested last night! Initial impression was very positive. Revision two sent back late last night and testing being done today. I suspect It’ll lick the problem based on the round 1 improvement.

The histogram I posted above is the ticket to figuring out what value the Optimum Trans Torque value should be. The stock trans torque table is quite far off.. Coincidentally right where the 3-4 and 4-5 take place (among many others) but suffice to say, initial feedback was quite surprising to the tester.

Yes sir! I used one of your old logs (maf16 logs) to generate the test trans torque table. I’m away from the laptop but I’ll send you over a test file around lunch-time.

Sounds good. I believe maf16 was pre aggressive optimum torque table if that changes anything (though i believe it was still greater than stock but not quite to the level of the tune i sent you last night).

    Either way! PROGRESS FTW!
