you only take offset into account to get your backspacing, which is really what you should be looking at.

a 9” wide wheel with the same offset as a 8” wide wheel will have different backspacing.

Ideally you want at least 4.5” backspacing, or a little less is ideal for clearance.

BS = 1/2 the wheel width + 0.5” +/- offset in inches
