Well this is VERY positive news indeed!

It seems from this thread most owner's are very impressed the 3rd Gen, 2016+ Tacoma, transmission (update in November 2020) now is SHIFTING as expected from any quality Toyota product.

Congratulations to MIKE SWEERS and the TOYODA TEAM for getting the JOB DONE in "November 2020" and with the new "adjustable driver's seat" the Tacoma is almost "Market Ready".

Too bad it took 4+ years to address the issues , MIKE. & Team Taco! (Let the CASH pour in.)

I had my 2016 DCLB OR - Inferno w/JBL package & orange trimmed interior on order with deposit down, ready to go, when the good folks of "Tacoma World" started sending up the signal flares about the transmission not even having the correct amount of fluid in them and running incorrectly.

Based upon the information provided by "Tacoma World", I let my Tacoma go to another good home.

The dealer didn't mind in the least because DCLB where very difficult to find at the time.

Based upon this thread, I'm thinking about getting a 2021 Tacoma.

I really want the new 2022 Tundra, but I know from past patterns from Mike Sweers and Team Toyoda the 2022 Tundra will probably not be ready for prime time until MY 2025.

So the question is now should I get a manual ACLB Sport or Off Road or an automatic trans option, for the next three years or so?

I truly enjoy reading all your posts here and I am truly torn sometime between getting a 2wd SR/SX with a 2.7 liter or a ACLB Sport with a manual.

The 2wd SR/SX 4 banger crowd seem to be hardy souls with a lot of creativity for perfecting their blank Tacoma canvases to their own liking.

I love my ACLB MT and have no regrets, but . . .

The factory tune still leaves out the bottom end torque. Yes. These latest TSB calibrations are a massive leap over the early 3rd Gens, but IMHO it still isn't complete without a tune to unlock that off idle torque and a few other features. If you budget for that, you will not be dissapointed.

 

Please let me know what you hear. I've experienced the same thing (with the truck and with the dealer here in Oly). I'm a little puzzled as to why they won't do it, especially since I purchased the machine there, have driven it everyday, have experienced the issue myself, my VIN is on the bulletin and am willing to try it out to see if it improves performance (which Toyota says it does). Thanks!

 

I've escalated it to the service manager which is going to have a master tech look into it. The power delay and hesitation" is a bit subjective but I believe my truck should not drive this way. I have no problem with the engine or transmission only the tuning of shift points.

Let me put it this way. Very often after slowing down and turning a 90 degree corner, and then giving it throttle to accelerate it will upshift and start bogging, which then makes you give it a bit more throttle, which then causes the truck to drop down to 1st gear and break loose the tires. My Gf is literally scared to drive the truck in the rain as this happened to her so now I tell her to just leave the ect button pressed as it seems to hold a gear longer in the same situation. All else fails I guess I'll have to regear and buy a supercharger.

 

If they won't voluntarily do it..tell them you'll pay the .4 hrs. It's worth it.

Another positive feedback for 04B31 to 04B33.

I've driven about 100 miles and it's much nicer. Acceleration feels peppier, gear changes feel normal, and SLIIIIIIIGHT mpg improvement.

Took me 20 mins, start to finish, and done at home with Techstream 15.20 and Tactrix 2.0. DO NOT skimp out on the cable like I did the first time.

 

Of course I do! Lol. I don't want to have to pay for somthing that should be done for free though, and if I were to pay for anything I'd just go for ovtune.

I may have to take up tonered on that offer though, even if he does drive the worst color ☺️

It is our first red vehicle. My friends still laugh.

 

I'd rather pay a little and not have to worry about scheduling appointments, taking time out of my day, and convincing the dealership employees to do what's right. Probably the same reason I didn't use my included toyotacare service. Ovtune will probably be in my future, this way I'll already have the cable.

 

The bbp has the paint oxidation issues, you may have dodged a bullet with that one.

That was a surprising problem.

BBP is a little bright for me in sunlight. It was Denim (CB) that I was lusty for, or a midnight blue.

I'm content though .

 

2018+ is 2.0mb yes
