You check the level in the rear end regularly? Never heard of anyone doing that. Sometimes the axle seals can fail, causing you to dump diff juice into your rear drums. Seems unlikely on a 2016 though.

I wouldn't keep driving it like that though. Your may end up doing more damage.

Check the U joints too (start with the rear one)
I’ve had a couple seize-up after cooling down overnight and they make some horrible noises in the morning.

Yeah unfortunately I’m in Vegas right now not gonna drive the truck till I have to tomorrow and when I get home I’ll check the diff fluid to see what my levels are at I know I’m right around the time where I need to change it out and was planning on doing it anyways so guess that times gonna be tomorrow

Right on. Second guess would be U joints.

I checked it about 5k miles ago but I know it’s time to change it so that’s gonna. Be something I’m gonna do tomorrow I don’t plan on driving it but that’s good to know I’ll check where I’m parked to see if there’s any signs of leaks or anything like that. As I was going to the parking area the sound magically disappeared so maybe it was something but nevertheless I’m not gonna ignore the sound I’m gonna jack it up check the fluid probably do a full change on it check the diff and rear drums. I know it’s not the brakes because I changed them about 5k miles ago

Honestly since It is like 300 miles till home I may just honestly get a rental truck and tow her home to be on the safe side

Might be worth it. Definitely don't want something locking up while doing 80 on the freeway.

It sounds almost identical to the behavior I experienced once with the e-brake while off-roading, but you said you ruled that out. I still suspect the drum brakes though. Did you try putting it in 4lo and gently going forwards and backwards? That freed it up for me, but I was on dirt when it happened. I was also thinking the worst. The truck was literally dragging one of the tires across the ground. Broken axle? But it worked itself out and hasn't happened since.

Yeah honestly my biggest fear is somethings up with the rear diff I’m going 80 down the road and then it eats up my gears then I’m really going no where do I may just rent something from like enterprise or something and tow her home

Yeah that’s what I was thinking is it could be the ebrake and a lot of people are thinking that’s what it could be but I mean the truck makes the noise whenever I’m going forward and pressing the gas at any moving speed if I’m in 1st gear and just let the gearing move the vehicle I don’t really hear it until I get to 3k plus rpm in 1st gear and anything over like 5mph I was thinking if the ebrake was locked up the truck wouldn’t even move forward when I’m not applying any gas to the truck but I may just like I said earlier tow her home and work on her there cause I really don’t wanna risk messing something up worse than it already is ya know

So then I’m technically within the warranty if this is the case I mean I take it in and worst thing they can say is it’s not
Under warranty anymore and I take it home and fix it myself I just think taking it to the dealer may save me a few bucks as long as it’s under warranty

I'd get it going 20-30 mph and give the e-brake a little work out just for curiosity. Not like slam the e brake on but just use it a few times.

I like your idea of getting it towed and then looked at. It was years ago, but my Camry diff catastrophically failed. Good news, it happened backing out of a parking spot. So glad it didn’t fail on the freeway.

Hit the local auto parts store for a couple quarts of gear oil and drain container. Drop the drain plug...no uglies in there, fill it up and drive it home.

Towing could be as bad as driving it if the problem is the differential.

Can’t you go to a dealer in LV?

Years ago I had a grinding sound in my 76 Cherokee. I pulled over and when I put it into reverse the transfer case blew apart. The drive chain was failing and in reverse it bunched up and blew the case.
