AGM battery help

Ya, and I've already posted it. 13 volts is more than fully charged.

That isn't enough to fully charge an AGM battery, professor.

 

As far as I know there are two makers of lower cost AGM. If you know better? spell it out.

I know Enersys makes them, but not low cost. The odyssey in my LC cost $300.

 

That's the voltage at my battery after the engine has been off for 15~20 minutes.
A fully charged AGM is 12.8 volts.

Learn to read.

I dont troll, just state the facts. 30+ years of running AGM batteries. Sometimes I'm ashamed I own a Tacoma after driving 80's and 90's Toyota trucks/LandCruisers.

What Toyota has done to the brand is shameful. But Toyota is still better than the other brands, so I'll stick with them.

I'll state it one more time. AGM can handle more voltage and charge faster, but they don't need more voltage. They will charge just fine with 13.7~8 volts.

 

My Deka manufactured AGM battery will show 12.6 - 12.7 30 minutes after shutting off after 8 hours of driving, maybe your multimeter is more optimistic than mine.

 

been so long since I've seen an Exide, I forgot. So three makers of cheap AGM's.

You are running a Deka Intimidator AGM in your Taco? What group size? I can't find a 27F in their catalog, that's the one I want.

 

No, just a lowly Duralast Platinum AGM. Well actually two of them with a Redarc BCDC.

edit: my bad, I though Deka manufactured East Penn batteries but it's the other way around apparently.

 

Im running 2 Northstar NSB-AGM27s and a Redarc BCDC + solar. Got the vfTuner ECU voltage maps changed to provide a service charge of 14.6V to the batteries. Lasts for ages with the fridge on.

 

Ok so the consensus is an AGM will charge fine off the stock alt output, not to optimum levels, but well enough. Any input on the heat tolerance of AGM’s?

Honestly guys I’m not super bent on this. I’m a curious person. I mostly want to know the pro’s and cons since for me it’s a new type of battery. If there’s a benefit then I can weigh the cost bump. So far I’m not sure of any real benefit, unless of course it tolerates heat better.

 

It doesnt look like youre doing anything that requires an AGM.

Just buy a lead acid.

So, you're saying you know better than the engineers at Northstar? Because I've talked directly to them and the minimum charge voltage is 14.2v @ 25C, with ideal charge voltage at 14.4v, +/- 18mV per C difference. Float voltage is 13.2v-13.8v, with ideal charge at 13.6V @ 25C.

I think I'm going to listen to the Northstar people over some random dip on TW, lol.

Why dont you tell us what youre going to use them for instead? That should have been posted already.
