Distance from fence to the wall without hitting the cord is 15 1/16. 15” works but the cord has the potential of hitting the back of the saw at around 12 degrees. This is without removing cord storage, I’ve heard of people doing that in real small shops.

From saw deck to top of handle is 21 1/2”.
*picture of saw deck so there is no confusion
    CB4BE201-AD7B-43AD-872E-7FCC2CAE0562.jpg

Fully swung left the handle is 3/4” proud.
Fully swung right the handle is 2 5/16” proud.

    Method of measuring the swing.

    thanks

Can you measure whether motor projects past side of base at back at extreme right and left settings

just trying to figure out total footprint I need to allow for it in dropped counter section

at angle like how you measured the front. If compound mitre makes it project further beyond base , that is the measurement I'm looking for . Basically I want the max size it needs for a footprint so there is no contact with cabinets to either side of it in any cutting configuration

    In before the edit..

3 1/4” to the left, it touches at a 45 degree bevel square cut. Center of handle makes contact.

4 5/16” to the right, it touches at 45 degree bevel and at 6 degrees to the left. Back side of motor makes contact.

I set the saw on some plywood, the table beneath is not perfectly flat. Should be accurate within a 1/16 or better.

    Method:
    D9866695-1B83-4836-994B-8FFCED153027.jpg

(right side at 45 and square cut, 3 7/8”. It took two hands to keep the square tight to the level and hold the tape. Square loose in photo because I’m holding my phone.)

hey , was just thinking about it after watching another Kapex video on youtube , the handle of the head is always forward of the fence on that saw correct , ie even at a compound angle setting

I know you have nothing else to do tonight besides run back and forth to your garage lol

I’m glad you asked. The trigger is 8” behind at full bevel to the left and 10” behind to the right.
    75E2B8F8-927B-4E6A-B168-91E1C8A882D1.jpg

    Why I’m glad you asked.

Full bevel all the ways to the right, the ass sticks out on the left 3 5/16”.
    4DA0A18A-61FF-408F-B07F-B08DDD822803.jpg

At full bevel it also pushes it from the back wall! 16 1/4” is needed.

I assume you’ll build the fence once you have the saw, it will also be constrained by the saw at full compound.

my building is 34' long , so roughly 33' inside the walls . Chop saw is centred so I have the capacity to cut 16'6" to either side of saw , plus I put full height casement window at one end in case I need to cut 20's haha

Just making sure I’m not being crazy. My shop is small, but I’m using a valuable 23’ wall to center the miter saw. If I’m not using a fence that will let me use the surface for other things. I’ll have to open the garage door if I need to run anything longer than 8’ through the jointer though.

My shop is kinda set up with 1 wall dedicated to a full length workbench that has the chopsaw on it but also is for housing all my tools above and below bench , tablesaw island in middle of room centred on 34' length again so same 16'6" capacity with door on one end centred on tablesaw blade line and window on other end to extend capacity . The long wall opposite the chopsaw / tool wall is dedicated to lumber storage / a few stand up tools

This building is more contractor tool storage / workshop than dedicated stay in shop woodworker workshop

With 23' I may consider offsetting mitre saw depending on what type of materials you are likely to cut , I'm usually handling materials up to 16'

just to reiterate , when you had contact with wall in this last pic you were at max angle / bevel correct ? ie 60 angle / 47 bevel ?
