Upgrades, cause nothing is good enough stock, ever. Added 36" Cisco tracks with two Bert's rod holders. I'll buy another two at some point but they're $100 a piece and since I usually fish by myself and can only legally use two rods it's an eventual thing. Also mounted two dual rod/net holders on each side to help keep the deck clear and organized.

Put a bungee net up front as well to hold the dock bumpers and ropes. Easy to get to but completely out of the way otherwise.

I've got a question for all of you. I've had my boat and trailer for about a year and a half and for the last 6 months or so I've been seeing some grease getting slung out of the hub on one trailer wheel, only on the outside of the wheel. I've looked behind the wheel and I see no grease at all back there so I dont think there is a broken rear seal. I've been pumping new grease through it regularly (just until I see grease moving out, not enough to overfill the hub cavity) and on 1 occasion I saw a small amount of water get pushed out by the new grease.

Do you guys think my dust cap is damaged or loose? I've checked them out and they seem fine. Any help or suggestions you can offer would be great because I'm about to make a 7 hour drive towing the boat. Thank you.

Bought a boat this weekend. 1975 ThunderCraft Magnum 160. Motor rebuilt two years ago. Only thing it needs is some interior TLC. Spent Sunday working on the trailer. Wheels, dolly, wiring, winch.

Looks like just the cap in the photos, I’d definitely make sure before hauling it that far though.

Should be pretty easy to tell if it worked. You might jack up the trailer if you can and turn the wheel just to make sure there is no grinding. I’ve had a bearing let go on a single axle on the highway, it was not fun.

Stay out on the water in the hammock under the bimini top. You wouldn't believe the fish action out there overnight.

Good idea, I'll have my family with me so I definitely don't want to take any risks. Would you use the axle near the leaf springs as a jack point?

yep, axle close to the wheel. I’d hook up to your truck and chalk the other side, might be overboard, but safer.

Been very fortunate to grow up on the lakes in Minnesota riding around in 'floating furniture'. Dad's been restoring them for 30+ years as a hobby both for friends/customers and a few personal ones alongside working a regular job. I remember one winter there were three 18-20 footers side by side in the 3 car garage in various stages, was a busy winter. They're heavy and noisy and slow and fantastic in every way haha.

Very nice! I had a '56 Chris Craft Sportsman for a few years. It had the MCL engine, which was the biggest they had back then. I bet it could pull tree stumps from the shoreline if I had tried! The engine had a wonderful throaty roar to it.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. From a by-gone era when craftmanship was utmost. We won't see that again. Thanks for keeping them alive.

Stretched the season as long as I could. The little Whaler's set for its winter nap. 0978E1DE-9DE1-4B9B-8EB5-2CB8CEA40CE7.jpg

Just as an update to my post last month:

I regreased my hubs and replaced the dust caps and after towing the boat and trailer ~400 miles each way they dont seem to be slinging grease any more. Thanks for those who offered advice.

New to me 1980 Double Eagle, 17'. Completely original, spent its entire life on a lake so the old 4cyl Penta motor is in fantastic shape. We've replaced the shitty points distributor with a pertronix unit which has made a massive difference in start up and idle. Only surprise so far was needing to replace the block water pump as the impeller inside was practically worn down to the nubs.
It's my second boat but I've wanted a DE for as long as I can remember.
Santa.. for Christmas I'd like summer to start in January.

I yanked out the old flooring over the weekend. Boat registration is approved and en route from the state. New seats from Wise arrived quickly. Here's a quick mockup to figure out the dimensions for new seat mounting frames. I'm putting a swivel for the captain's seat because I have long legs and tucking them under the steering wheel is fun.
Next up: scrubbing and sanding the floor, scrubbing again, priming, and painting the floor with rubberized paint. Once that's complete and the seats are back in, I'll re-attach speedo, wax the exterior, polish & tighten the chrome, install a new glove box & rearview mirror. I have a local upholsterer who is going to replace and match the front cushions to the new seats.
